Louisville Defeats GlenOak for 1st Time Since 2013 – Baseball
Louisville 5, GlenOak 2
The Louisville Leopards Varsity Baseball Team defeated the visiting GlenOak Golden Eagles 5-2 Monday Evening at the Field of Dreams. With the win, Louisville improves to 13-4 on the season.
Andrew Gray pitched 6 2/3 innings, allowed 2 unearned runs on 7 hits, and struck out 5 to earn the victory on the mound for the Leopards. Jordan Shearer struck out the final Golden Eagle batter to close out Louisville’s first win over GlenOak since 2013.
A single and an error setup the Golden Eagles with two runners on and no one out. Kyle Boron, who would lead GHS with 2 of his teams 7 hits, singled to left on the next pitch scoring Joe Wickline from second to give GlenOak an early 1-0 advantage.
Gray responded by striking out the next 4 Eagles batters he faced in retiring 8 of the next 9 GlenOak hitters that came to the plate overall.
The Leopards bats also answered in the bottom of the inning to produce three runs that gave LHS the lead for good. Davis Burick was hit by a pitch to start the frame and advanced to third on a single to left by Bryce Zuppe. A throwing error allowed Burick to score and Zuppe ended up on second. Caleb Prasco knocked him home with an RBI single two batters later and then later scored when Cam Lingle reached base via an error on a ground ball to short to put the Leopards ahead 3-1.
Lingle added to the Louisville lead in the bottom of the third on an RBI double to right field that scored Dillon Rebuck from second. Rebuck hit a 1-out double in the at-bat before to setup the insurance run.
These back-to-back doubles were 2 of 4 doubles hit by the Leopards during the contest. Broc Pickens also doubled to start the LHS sixth inning, advanced to third on a sacrifice by Dom Mongiardo, and then scored when Max Hartline hit an RBI groundout to first base. Burick doubled in the next at-bat, but a fly out ended the inning in giving Louisville a 5-2 lead heading into the seventh.
The Golden Eagles only other run came in the fourth inning. Noah Lemus was hit by a pitch, advanced to third on a pair of passed balls, and then scored when Henry Smith grounded out to third base to chop the Leopard lead in half at 4-2.
Louisville last defeated GlenOak six years to the day of their Monday victory. Joey Duckworth went 3-for-4 with 5 RBIs to lead the Leopards in a 9-5 victory over the Golden Eagles on April 22, 2013. GlenOak had won the previous 7 meetings against Louisville overall.
