Louisville 2, Marlington 0

With 8:48 remaining in the contest Lady Leopards fans breathed a huge sigh of relief. After 71 minutes of scoreless soccer, Rachel Baughman netted the first of her two goals to lead Louisville to a 2-0 victory at Marlington Wednesday. With the victory, the Lady Leopards are now 11-1-1 overall and 5-0 in NBC play.

Louisville’s defense remained strong all night long. Key contributors to keeping the Dukes scoreless included Jessica Hamsher, Samantha Kibler, Kelly Miller, and Goalie Becca Springman.

On the go-ahead goal Hamsher intercepted a free kick in the Leopards own end. She then booted it Beatty's Sports Leopard Skin Grey Hoodiepast midfield and Baughman got a touch on it about 10 yards from the penalty box. After pushing it ahead, Baughman scored shooting right to left past the charging Marlington goalie.

With seconds winding down, the Dukes goalie dribbled upfield and pushed the ball ahead outside of the box. In one smooth motion, Miller intercepted the pass and kicked the ball past midfield all the way to Baughman who stood just yards outside the penalty box. Baughman skied the ball over the goalie’s head and into the open net for her 26th goal of the season.

With the victory, the Lady Leopards need just one win to clinch a share of the NBC. Their remaining league schedule includes home matches against Canton South on October 2 and Alliance on October 9.
