Riley Scores Four Goals to Lead Leopards’ Early Onslaught

Reese Riley scored four goals to lead the Lady Leopards’ offensive attack. She charged forward for her first goal in the seventh minute after a setup from Ava Seitz to put Louisville ahead 2-0. The pair connected again in reverse at the start of the ninth minute when Riley pushed a pass ahead off a defender that found Seitz alone in front of an open net, extending the LHS lead to 3-0.

Riley then scored back-to-back goals to increase the Leopard advantage to 5-0. After gaining control of a pass from Kasey Lint inside the box, Riley fired a shot off the left post that ricocheted into the net. Less than three and a half minutes later, Seitz set up Riley inside the box again for a shot that found the right side of the net.

Riley capped her four-goal performance with a takeaway on defense about 10 yards beyond midfield. She weaved past multiple Alumni defenders before beating the goalkeeper with a shot into the left side of the net, putting Louisville ahead 8-3 with 34:10 remaining.

The Alumni squad did not have enough players to field a full team, so several current players filled out its lineup. After setting up Riley twice and scoring her first goal for LHS, Seitz put on a yellow jersey and helped the Alumni.

Seitz scored the final goal of the first half for the Alumni, cutting Louisville’s lead to 6-2 at the break. She completed her unusual three-goal performance with 4:13 remaining, scoring her second goal for the Alumni to trim the deficit to 10-4.

Seven Different Leopards Score as LHS Reaches Double Digits

Gianna Kruse opened the scoring on a tap-in after Ruby Rodriguez’s initial shot deflected off the goalkeeper just 84 seconds into the match. The pair connected again in reverse for Louisville’s first goal of the second half. Kruse launched a corner kick into the box, and Rodriguez one-timed it into the left side of the net to put Louisville ahead 7-3.

Rodriguez also assisted on Kasey Lint’s goal in the 25th minute. Lint nearly scored again in the 54th minute when she sent a shot from the left side into the goal box. Addy Schmidt got a foot on the ball before it deflected off the right post and into the net, extending Louisville’s lead to 9-3.

A little more than five minutes later, Ava Waggoner scored Louisville’s fourth consecutive goal of the second half off an assist from Natalia Tonnous. The goal gave the Lady Leopards a commanding 10-3 advantage with 21:43 remaining.

Lingenhoel Scores Twice to Lead Alumni

Alissa Lingenhoel led the Alumni with a pair of goals. She put her team on the scoreboard with 4:50 remaining in the first half before scoring again during the opening minute of the second half to cut the deficit to 6-3.

Keelan’s Last-Minute Goal Extends Scoring Streak

Morgan Keelan returned to the Alumni squad for a record sixth consecutive Alumni Game. With fewer than eight minutes remaining, Keelan narrowly missed on two prime scoring opportunities. However, with under a minute to play, she split the defense after receiving a touch in stride down the middle of the field.

Keelan carried the ball toward the right side of the box with a speedy LHS defender closing in. She then dove to angle a shot back toward the left side, where it literally found a seam passing through the left side of the net for a goal with 53 seconds remaining.

Keelan has now scored in six consecutive Alumni Games dating back to 2021, when she scored five goals as a senior for the LHS squad. Since graduating, she has added six goals for the Alumni—scoring twice in 2022 and once in each of the past four Alumni Games.

2021 Louisville Leopards Girls Soccer Alumni Game

Original Team Member Ferguson Returns to Alumni Game

2006 LHS graduate Teddi Ferguson returned to the Alumni squad this season. She was a member of the original Lady Leopards Soccer Team as a sophomore during its inaugural 2003 season. Ferguson also played for Louisville’s soccer team in 2002, when the program was still co-ed.

Ferguson also appeared in an early Lady Leopards Soccer Alumni Game during the event’s original run in 2016 and 2017 before it went on hiatus until 2021.

It was great to see a member of the original squad return, and hopefully her appearance encourages more Lady Leopards alumni to participate in future Alumni Games.

LHS Stays Unbeaten Against Alumni, Now 8-0

The Alumni also established a new team record with five goals, eclipsing the four scored by the 2021 squad in a 7-4 loss to LHS.

Louisville is now 8-0 all-time against the Alumni dating back to the inaugural game in 2016. Below are the results from all eight meetings, along with links to game recaps and video highlights for many of the contests:
