Girls Basketball Downs Dukes to Win 15th Straight Game

Louisville 55, Marlington 47

The Louisville Lady Leopards Girls Varsity Basketball Team downed the visiting Marlington Dukes 55-47 Beatty's Pink Winter Hat 2015Saturday Afternoon at Louisville High School. With their 15th consecutive victory, Louisville improves to 15-1 overall and stays a perfect 11-0 in the NBC.

Abby Beaver scored a game-high 16 points and recorded a game-high 4 assists to lead the Leopards. Sarah Lairson also finished with a double-double in scoring 15 points and pulling down a game-high 10 boards. Also highlighting the Louisville stat sheet were Grace Jackson with 7 points & 8 rebounds and Emily Hollifield who had a game-high 4 steals.

The Dukes hit 3 of their 6 three-pointers in the opening quarter in taking an early 13-9 lead. However, Danielle Walter and Beaver answered with triples of their own for Louisville helping the Leopards tie the game back up at 15-all.

After Marlington took the lead again, Lairson scored from the key while being fouled with 0.9 seconds remaining in the first quarter. This jump started a 12-0 Leopards run that was full of all out effort on offensive glass. On one possession, Louisville grabbed 5 straight offensive rebounds before Alexa Oberster flushed in a lay-in while being fouled in the process. The Leopards out-rebounded the Dukes 33-22 for the game, which included a 13-3 advantage in offensive boards.

Louisville would take a 33-27 lead into halftime and edge Marlington 22-20 in the second half to win their 13th straight NBC game. The Dukes actually out-shot the Leopards 43% (18 of 41) to 40% (22 of 55) from the field, but Louisville’s offensive rebounding helped create 14 more shot opportunities.

Marlington (8-10, 3-8) was led by Zoey Peck who scored a team-high 11 points and dished out a team-high 3 assists. Morgan Penird and Alyssa Powers also scored 10 points each.

With the victory, the Leopards have now won 5 straight over the Dukes overall and 7 straight at home over Marlington. Louisville now leads the all-time series 64-17, which includes a 30-10 record at LHS.

UP NEXT: The Lady Leopards will next travel to Minerva to take on the Lions on Wednesday, January 27. JV will start at 6:00 PM and Varsity will follow around 7:30 PM.

The Lady Leopards JV Team suffered their first NBC defeat of the year at the hands of the visiting Order Leopard Nation Highlight VideoDukes 49-45 Saturday Afternoon at LHS. With the loss, Louisville falls to 14-2 overall and 10-1 in the conference.

Hanna Lautzenheiser scored 10 of her game-high 20 points in the fourth quarter to lead the Leopards attempted rally. Alexis Beaver also broke double figures with 11 and Sydney Daniel, Erin Hahn, and Rachel Israel also tallied 4 points a piece.

Marlington was led by Maria Ferrett and Alivia Lepley who scored a team-high 17 points each. Ferrett hit 3 of the Dukes 4 three-pointers which proved to be the difference in the contest. Taylor Hermann had the other triple and hit double digits with 10.
