Falcone Fans 11 in Shutout of Carrollton

Gianna Falcone Louisville Lady Leopards Softball Vs. Carrollton 2013

Video Highlights

Louisville 7, Carrollton 0

Gianna Falcone struck out 11 and pitched a 3-hit shutout to help lead host Louisville past visiting Carrollton 7-0.  Katie Cozy also hit a 2-run homer for the second consecutive game.

Before the Sophomore shortstop planted the ball into the evergreen in left-center field, she battled. Cozy blazed a pitch foul just missing fans and Coach Chet Givens, she rocketed a pitch to left that would have been well gone had it stayed fair, and she showed patience enough to work the count full. Finally her pitch was delivered and for the second consecutive game she began Louisville’s scoring with a 2-run bomb. Shelby Swigert, who was on third, also scored via the blast.

Louisville doubled their advantage in the third inning that began with Amy Hoover’s lead-off triple. After Cozy walked aboard she drew a throw from the catcher. The speedy Beatty's Sports Softball Shirt 2013Hoover immediately jetted for home and slid just under the incoming tag. The heads-up Cozy also went from first to third on the play. Cozy would complete her journey home soon after when Chandler Rice’s sacrifice groundout made it 4-0.

The Lady Leopards picked up three more insurance runs in their final two at-bats. In the fifth inning, Cozy picked up her third RBI of the game when her sacrifice ground-out allowed Hoover to come home.  Then Annie Woolf led off the Leopards sixth by pounding out a double. The pinch-running Grace Jackson would later score via Jordan Monnot’s perfectly placed bunt single. On the final play of the inning Hoover cracked her third base-hit of the game allowing Falcone to score from second. The run came in just in time as Hoover was tagged for the third out in an attempt to stretch her hit to a double.

Three outs later the Lady Leopards celebrated their NBC-Opening 7-0 victory. Louisville has now taken 10 out of the last 11 meetings with Carrollton. With the victory, the Lady Leopards have won 25 consecutive conference games with their last loss ironically coming at home against Carrollton in 2011.
