Barker Wins Ultimate Tiebreaker to Capture 3rd at OHSAA State Tournament – Wrestling

Four Louisville Leopards wrestlers competed at the OHSAA Division II State Tournament this past weekend held at Ohio State’s Jerome Schottenstein Center in Columbus. Louisville scored 15 points as a team and finished 34th out of 113 schools with wrestlers present in Division II.

Barker Wins in Ultimate Tie-Breaker to Take 3rd
Senior Kolten Barker finished 4-1 at the state tournament and captured third place in the 126-pound weight class.
Barker earned an 8-4 decision in first tie-breaker over Clyde sophomore Dawson Brimmer in the opening round Friday. On Saturday, Barker claimed a 5-3 decision against St. Paris Graham freshman Blaine DeMarco in the championship quarterfinals.
Barker’s quest for a state title came to an end in the championship semifinals. He was defeated in a 5-3 decision by St. Mary’s Memorial junior Tate Hisey. Hisey would go on to take the 126 state title on Sunday.
Barker bounced back in the consolation semifinals with a 6-5 decision against Bishop Watterson sophomore Joe Curry in first tie-breaker to advance to the third place match.
In the third place bout, Barker re-united with Demarco for a championship quarterfinal rematch from a day earlier. The heavily contested matchup ended with Barker earning a 3-2 decision in ultimate tie-breaker to capture third place in 126.
Barker ends the season with a final record of 44-6. He also finished with 14 of the Leopards’ 15 team points.
The Rest of the Leopards
Freshman Kaiden Barker (113) earned the only other point and victory for Louisville. He shutout Springfield Shawnee senior Brandon Day by a 6-0 decision in the first round of consolation. Barker bowed out in the next round and finished the season with a 42-7 record.
Colton Rhoads (120) and Aric Criss (132) also represented the Leopards over the weekend as state participants.
