Meyer Wins 1st District Title Since 2010, Lady Leopards Qualify for Regionals – Girls Cross Country

The Louisville Leopards Girls Cross Country team delivered one of their most memorable performances in recent years at the Division II GlenOak District Meet on Saturday afternoon, with senior Kylah Meyer racing to an individual district championship and the team collectively earning a return trip to the regional meet.

Meyer 1st Individual District Champion in 15 Years
Meyer crossed the finish line in 18:30.15, claiming the top spot by more than four seconds over Wadsworth’s Maggie Gerschutz (18:34.38). Her victory made history — Meyer became Louisville’s first district champion since 2010, when Mackenzie Rankin won the Division I Malone District with a time of 18:54.87. She also joined an elite group of Lady Leopard greats to capture individual district titles, joining Samantha Norman (2005 and 2008) and Mattie Rankin (2009). Notably, in 2008, Louisville runners Norman and Mattie Rankin finished first and second, marking the most dominant district performances in program history.
Adding to the significance, Meyer’s time of 18:30.15 wasn’t just the best in the Division II race — it was the fastest girls 5K time across all three divisions competing at GlenOak. Her wire-to-wire effort showcased both her experience and poise, as she methodically built separation from the pack and powered home to a commanding finish.
Saturday’s win also extended an impressive individual streak for Meyer, who has now qualified for regionals in all four of her varsity seasons. She will enter next week’s competition seeking to qualify for the state meet for the fourth consecutive year, an accomplishment that would place her among Louisville’s all-time greats.
Louisville Returns to Regionals After a 1-Year Absence
Behind their senior leader, the Leopards put together a gritty and determined team effort to secure a 12th-place finish with 305 points, which was enough to advance to regionals for the first time since 2023. Junior Madelynn Bailey came through as Louisville’s second finisher, clocking 23:08.12. Freshman Stella Blommel continued her impressive debut season with a strong 24:13.89, while sophomore Camryn Cline finished close behind in 24:19.59, both helping to secure crucial displacement points.
Junior Elizabeth Babcock completed the scoring for the Leopards in 27:00.90, and sophomore Abbriel Demos added valuable depth by crossing in 27:41.90, rounding out a full team performance that reflected the Leopards’ steady progression throughout the postseason stretch.
Looking Ahead to Regionals
Meyer’s win and the team’s advancement mark a high point for a Louisville program that has been steadily rebuilding back toward regional-level contention. The Leopards entered the season with a balanced mix of experience and youth, and their GlenOak showing reinforced that the foundation for future success is firmly in place.
Next up, Meyer and the Leopards will compete at the OHSAA Division II Youngstown Regional Meet, scheduled for Saturday, October 25 at 1:40 PM from Boardman High School. Louisville will look to build on its district success and earn a coveted spot at the state championships in Obetz the following weekend.
