Leopards Shut Out Red Devils in Opening Quarter
The Lady Leopards held the Red Devils scoreless in the opening quarter, outscoring them 11-0.
This marked the first time Louisville shut out a team for an entire quarter since they did in the second quarter of their 52-39 loss to Bishop Hartley last season. Leopard Nation has no previous records of the Lady Leopards shutting out a team in the first quarter.
Crestwood did not get on the board until Liv Martini hit a pair of free throws with 4:40 remaining in the second quarter. The 11:20 stretch marked the longest known span of holding an opponent scoreless to open a game in Louisville Girls Basketball history.
Following their first points from the free throw line, the Red Devils quickly scored two transition baskets via steals to cut the deficit to 16-6 just 25 seconds later. This sequence sparked an 11-0 Crestwood run that cut the deficit to five.
However, the Lady Leopards scored the final five points of the half to double up the Red Devils at the break 22-11. Louisville maintained its double-digit advantage after three quarters and built its largest lead of the contest by the final horn in securing a 14-point victory.
Brady and Harper Score 6 Each to Lead Crestwood
Becca Brady and Reese Harper both scored a team-high 6 points to lead Crestwood. Brady made a pair of three-pointers in the third quarter to account for all of her points. Harper made a basket in each of the final three quarters while also securing 5 rebounds, 2 blocks, and 2 steals.
Seven different Red Devils found the scoring column in the contest. Liv Martini and Piper Seibold scored 4 points each. Martini dished out a game-high 5 assists and had a team-best 4 steals. Siebold also tallied 4 boards and 2 steals. Jackie Blasiole hit a three-pointer in the second quarter, Mia Davis also added a basket in the second, and Ava Lincoln split a pair of free throws in the third quarter. Lincoln also contributed with a game-high 7 rebounds, 3 blocks, and 3 steals.
Crestwood has now dropped five straight games and falls to 5-8 on the season with the loss.
The Lady Leopards are now 1-1 all-time against the Red Devils. Louisville fell at Crestwood 50-48 last season.
