Lady Leopards Cruise Past Crusaders in Defensive Battle 38-26 – Girls Basketball

The Louisville Leopards Girls Varsity Basketball Team defeated the visiting Canton Central Catholic Crusaders 38-26 on Wednesday night at Louisville High School. With their third consecutive victory, Louisville improves to 8-11 on the season.
Barwick Leads Louisville with Team-High 10 Points
Courtney Barwick scored 6 of her team-high 10 points in the second half to lead the Lady Leopards. Maggie Baker also contributed 8 points, knocking down a pair of three-pointers.
Mabel Kiko, Ezela Manko, and Karis Miglich each added 6 points for Louisville, while Ella Tillett chipped in with a layup in the third quarter.
Leopards Seal Victory with 11-0 Fourth-Quarter Run
The Lady Leopards fell behind 5-0 out of the gate, but responded with a 9-1 run to take control of the game. Louisville never trailed again, building a 14-8 lead at the end of the first quarter and extending it to 19-11 by halftime.
Canton Central Catholic fought back, trimming the deficit to 27-22 at the end of the third quarter and closing within 27-24 early in the fourth. However, Louisville responded emphatically with an 11-0 run, pulling ahead 38-24 before the Crusaders hit a pair of free throws in the final minute to bring the final score to 38-26.
Belden Scores Game-High 11 for Central Catholic
Lily Belden led the Lady Crusaders with a game-high 11 points, including 6 in the third quarter. Grace Finefrock added 5 points, while Sarah Belden and Ellie Buckler each tallied 4. Avery McMahon also chipped in a basket to round out Canton Central Catholic’s scoring.
The Lady Crusaders now hold an 11-7 record on the season.
Leopards Extend Winning Streak Against Crusaders to Six
The Lady Leopards have now defeated the Lady Crusaders in six straight meetings dating back to 2018. Louisville leads the all-time series 25-22, including a 12-8 record in home games.
The combined total of 64 points is the lowest in a matchup between these two teams since their first-ever meeting in 1977 when Louisville won 25-21 at Central Catholic.
