The Louisville Leopards Boys Varsity Lacrosse Team came up just short in a 9-8 double-overtime loss to the visiting Canton Central Catholic Crusaders Tuesday night at Louisville Leopards Stadium. Louisville dropped its second straight game and fell to 5-6 on the season.

Daum and Warner Record Hat Tricks in Louisville Loss

Parker Daum and Mason Warner each recorded hat tricks to lead the Louisville offense. Dillyn Decost and Isaac Johnson also scored for the Leopards.

Daum also notched a team-best 2 assists. Logan Galbraith, Caleb Johnson, Vansyn Berlyak, and Stephen Hann also added an assist each.


Leopards Pounce on Crusaders Early

My Fit Life Personal Trainer Side AdDaum scored twice in the opening quarter, both unassisted, and Isaac Johnson added another goal off an assist from Galbraith as Louisville grabbed a 3-1 lead after one.

Decost and Warner then scored in the second quarter to help Louisville pull ahead 5-2 with 5:24 remaining in the first half. Caleb Johnson and Daum provided the assists on those goals.


Crusaders Storm Back in Second Quarter

West Main Vet Clinic AdAfter falling behind 5-2 midway through the second quarter, Canton Central Catholic answered with four straight goals to take a 6-5 lead into halftime. Martin Mikulas keyed the surge and proved to be a constant problem for the Louisville defense all night.

Mikulas scored six goals total for the Crusaders, including three in the second quarter alone. Patrick Sciarretti assisted on three first-half scores as Central erased Louisville’s early three-goal advantage.

The Crusaders scored the final four goals of the first half to take the lead. The run started with Dominic Bogdan finding the back of the net via a pass from Sciarretti with 4:18 remaining. Mikulas curled around the net for a score and then added a second straight goal off another assist from Sciarretti.

Bogdan then found Rowan Benjamin for a goal with just 5 seconds remaining in the half to put Central in front 6-5. Benjamin also recorded an assist on the Crusaders’ lone first quarter score.

Bogdan picked up his second assist just 68 seconds into the second half when Mikulas scored again to put Central ahead 7-5.


Leopards Regain Lead in Third Quarter

Gionino's Pizzeria Oakwood - Mobile AdLouisville responded well in the third quarter. Daum started the rally by busting through three defenders for a goal off a setup by Berlyak.

Warner followed with back-to-back goals at the 6:44 and 0:52 marks to put the Leopards back on top 8-7 heading into the final quarter. Hann fielded a ground ball and then flung a long pass that bounced several times ahead to Warner for the first score. Daum assisted Warner on the second goal.


Inesfraza Scores Game-Tying Goal with 10:54 Left

The Crusaders tied the game with 10:54 left in regulation when Jesio Inesfraza scored unassisted. Both teams then went scoreless the rest of regulation and through the first overtime, sending the game into a second extra session.


Mikulas’ Sixth Goal Decides Game in Double Overtime

The game finally ended with 1:21 remaining in the second overtime when Mikulas scored the winner off a setup created after Vincent Sciarretti fielded a long Louisville goalkeeper pass and quickly moved the ball forward.

Mikulas’ sixth goal of the night gave the Crusaders a walk-off 9-8 victory. With the win, Central has now won four straight, improving to 8-2 on the season.


Central Takes Third Straight Against Louisville

The Leopards have now lost to the Crusaders in each of the last three seasons, after winning the first five matchups to begin the head-to-head series.

Louisville is now 5-3 against Central Catholic all-time, which includes a 2-2 record in games played at home in the series.
