Leopards Score 9 in 1st, Run-Rule Crusaders 15-5 – Baseball
Louisville 15, Canton Central Catholic 5, 5 Innings
The Louisville Leopards Varsity Baseball Team run-ruled the visiting Canton Central Catholic Crusaders 15-5 in 5 innings Saturday at the Field of Dreams. With the victory, Louisville improves to 2-1 on the season.
Austin Cummings batted 2-for-3 for a 2-run homer in the first and a 2-run double in the third to lead Louisville. Bryce Zuppe also batted 2-for-3 with a 3-run home run to cap off the scoring in the Leopards 9-run opening inning.
Nine different Louisville batters recorded hits in the game as they combined to finish with 13 hits as a team. Davis Burick and Jack Davis each finished with multi-hit games and scored 2 runs a piece. Davis singled home Caleb Prasco in both of the first two innings. Prasco also had an RBI triple and drove in a pair of runs.
The Crusaders scored 3 runs in the opening frame, but the Leopards responded with 9 runs in the bottom of the inning. Dom Mongiardo’s RBI single capped off a 3-run Louisville second inning to make it 12-4. LHS also added a pair of runs on Cummings 2-run double in the third to take a 14-4 double digit advantage. Central managed to tack on another run in the fourth to shrink the Leopard lead to single digits and setting up a walk-off opportunity in the fifth.
Davis Burick singled to left on a 3-1 pitch and was replaced by pinch runner Justin Blyer. Then Blyer stole second to put the clinching run in scoring position. With 1 out, Jordan Shearer hit a walk-off RBI double on a fly ball to right field scoring Blyer and ending the game.
Central Catholic was led by Shepard who finished a perfect 3-for-3 with 2 RBIs and 2 runs scored. Sirpilla also batted 2-for-3 with an RBI and Wilson drove in a run for the Crusaders.

The Leopards JV Team also mercied the visiting Crusaders 15-2 in 5 innings during the second half of the Varsity/JV double header held at the Field of Dreams Saturday. With the victory, Louisville is now an even 1-1 on the young season.
Pitchers Broc Pickers and Tyler Jackson combined for a 5 inning no-hitter and struck out 10 to lead the Leopards. Pickens started in pitching 3 innings, giving up 2 earned runs, and striking out 7. Jackson closed out the final two frames in fanning 3.
Andrew Figler batted 1 for 3 with 4 RBIs and a pair of runs scored to lead the Leopards on offense. Jonah Harsh also went 1-for-1 at the dish and drove in 2 runs. Justin Blyer, Austin Pugh, and Pickens all batted in runs as well.
