Leopards Rally from Early Deficit on Senior Night
Cardinal Mooney came out quickly, scoring the game’s first two goals in within less than a minute of each other. Olivia Scott opened the scoring off an assist from Natalie Blasko at the 10:49 mark of the first quarter, and Sophia Rotunno followed with a goal off a feed from Lexi Italiano just 53 seconds later to give the Cardinals a 2-0 advantage.
Louisville answered midway through the quarter when freshman Callie McKimmie finished a pass from sophomore Grace Diller to cut the deficit to 2-1. But Scott struck again late in the period with an unassisted goal to put Mooney back in front 3-1 after one quarter.
The Leopards then seized control in the second quarter. Izzy Babcock started the rally with a free-position goal at the 10:46 mark. Diller followed with the equalizer off an assist from Gianna Pentito, and Claire Genet gave Louisville its first lead of the night with a goal set up by Diller. Josie Butler then capped the four-goal quarter off a long lead pass from Babcock to extend the Leopards’ lead to 5-3 heading into halftime.
Diller Helps Fuel Louisville’s Turnaround
Diller played a central role in Louisville’s comeback, finishing with a goal and 3 assists. After helping set up McKimmie’s first-quarter score, Diller found the back of the net herself to tie the game in the second quarter. She later assisted on goals by Genet and in the opening minute of the fourth quarter to Kloey Rukavina.
Babcock also had a strong all-around night with a goal and an assist, while Genet added a goal and an assist of her own. McKimmie, Butler, Rukavina, and Pentito each contributed a goal in Louisville’s balanced seven-goal attack.
Leopards Lock Down Mooney After Halftime
After Louisville took its 5-3 lead into the break, the defense took over. The Cardinals managed just one goal over the final two quarters, and that came from Scott off an assist from Arianna Stamp at the 7:09 mark of the third quarter to trim the deficit to 5-4.
Louisville answered in the fourth quarter and put the game away with two more goals. Rukavina converted a pass from Diller with 11:19 to play to make it 6-4, and Pentito added the final tally off an assist from Genet at the 8:47 mark. From there, the Leopards kept Mooney off the scoreboard the rest of the way to seal the Senior Night victory.
Scott Records Hat Trick for Cardinals
Scott led Cardinal Mooney with a hat trick, accounting for 3 of the Cardinals’ 4 goals. Rotunno scored the other Mooney goal, while Blasko, Italiano, and Stamp each recorded an assist.
This was Mooney’s third consecutive loss as they dropped to 6-8 on the season.
Louisville Snaps Skid Against Cardinal Mooney
The victory snaps the Lady Leopards three-game losing streak against the Cardinals. Louisville is now 3-5 against Cardinal Mooney all-time, which includes a 2-2 record when playing at Louisville Leopards Stadium. This was the Lady Leopards first triumph over the Cardinals since a 10-6 road victory on April 27, 2023.
The Lady Leopards finish the regular season with a home record of 5-3.
