The Louisville Leopards Girls Varsity Lacrosse Team suffered a heartbreaking 6-5 loss to the visiting Beaumont Blue Streaks Saturday afternoon at Louisville Leopards Stadium. Louisville led three different times, including a 5-4 advantage in the final three minutes, but Beaumont scored twice in the final 18 seconds to steal the victory. The loss drops the Lady Leopards to 7-5 on the season, while the Blue Streaks improve to 8-5.
Babcock Records Hat Trick as Leopards Battle Into the Fourth
Izzy Babcock led Louisville with a hat trick, scoring 3 goals and adding an assist in the tough defeat. Babcock put the Leopards on the board late in the opening quarter, finishing a pass from Grace Diller with just 9 seconds left in the period to make it 1-0.
After Beaumont answered twice in the second quarter around a Claire Genet free-position goal, Babcock put Louisville back in front with another free-position score midway through the third quarter. Following Beaumont’s equalizer late in the third, Babcock struck again early in the fourth quarter off another assist from Diller to give the Leopards a 4-3 edge.
McKimmie Puts Louisville Ahead Late
With the game tied 4-4 midway through the fourth quarter, Louisville found a late breakthrough with under three minutes remaining. Babcock set up Callie McKimmie for the go-ahead score with 2:51 left, putting the Lady Leopards in front 5-4. Babcock, who delivered the assist from behind the net, threw are stick down in celebration for her freshman teammate and Louisville look poised to secure the victory.
Blue Streaks Steal Game in Final Seconds
The Blue Streaks refused to go away and mounted a stunning finish in the closing seconds. Giuliana Grdina converted a free-position chance with 18 seconds remaining to tie the game at 5-5. Then, after Beaumont won the ensuing draw, Brynn Fallon followed up her own rebound and buried the game-winner with just 5 seconds left on the clock.
It was a crushing ending for a Louisville team that had battled for control all afternoon. The Leopards led 1-0, 2-1, 3-2, 4-3, and 5-4, but Beaumont answered every time and saved its final response for the most critical moment.
Fallon and Grdina Each Score Twice for Beaumont
Beaumont had four different players score in the win, led by Brynn Fallon and Giuliana Grdina with 2 goals apiece. Fallon scored once in the second quarter and then delivered the decisive putback in the closing seconds. Grdina tied the match at 3-3 late in the third quarter before adding the free-position goal that evened the score in the final 18 seconds.
Kristina Linares also scored in the fourth quarter for Beaumont, while Sarah Gillespie netted the Blue Streaks’ first goal in the second period. Bryn Safran played a major role as a distributor, recording 3 assists in the win, and Francesca Centanni also notched an assist.
Blue Steaks Take Series Lead Over Leopards
The two teams have now met three times in the last 385 days after not facing each other previously. Louisville won last year’s regular season match up at Beaumont on April 12, 2025 before falling to the Blue Streaks 6-3 in the DII, Region 6 playoffs.
Saturday’s result gave Beaumont a 2-1 lead in the all-time series over Louisville. This was the first-ever meeting between the two teams at Louisville Leopards Stadium.
