Leopards Freshman Open With Win Over Canfield 27-14 – Freshman Football
Louisville 27, Canfield 14
Quarterback Connor Adelman scored 4 touchdowns to lead the Leopards offense. Adelman and the Louisville line set the tone from the first snap of the game. Jayden Richards pancaked an opposing defender springing Adelman for a gain of 25 yards on the first play from scrimmage. Then Adelman tucked and ran to his left for a gain of 27 to put the Leopards inside the redzone. Three plays later, the charged up Leopards scored when Adelman rolled to his right and fired to Zack Seaman for a 9 yard touchdown.
Canfield drove to the Louisville 34 facing a 3rd-and-12. The Louisville defense came up big when Creed Patterson stripped the Cardinal ball carrier and recovered on the Leopards 27 yard line. The Leopards offense went 3-and-out on the ensuing drive, but a high snap went over the head of the punter and Louisville fell on it in the endzone for a Canfield safety.
After a few scoreless possessions, the Cardinals got on the board just before halftime on a 57 yard touchdown pass with 21 seconds left before the half. The Leopards defense slammed the door on the conversion run up the middle though. Adelman was first on the scene and both Riston Jobes and Cameron Brazek were also there to plug the hole. Canfield went into the break up by a slim 8-7 margin.
The spirit of giving continued in the second half as the Cardinals also had a high snap on a punt attempt. The ball bounced all the way back to the Canfield 7 yard line where they fell on it. Adelman stormed up the gut and hurdled a defender into the endzone to give Louisville the lead back at 14-8 with 6:51 left to play in the third quarter.
The Leopards defense halted the Cardinals again on their next two possessions. Jobes burst onto the scene to record a third down sack forcing a punt. Two plays later the fourth quarter began with Adelman sweeping to the left down the sideline. Paved by blockeds from Brazek and Patterson, he traveled 62 yards untouched to the endzone to put Louisville ahead 20-8.
Canfield trimmed the lead when the same touchdown duo hooked up for a 49 yard touchdown deep down the right sideline. Jobes made the stop on the conversion try to keep the score at 20-14 with exactly six minutes remaining.
Jobes also kick started the next Leopards drive with a 20 yard run on the first play and 17 yard run a few plays after that. The 6 play, 65 yard drive ended with Adelman running right for a game-clinching 13 yard touchdown. Caleb Miller delivered the initial block and Jobes pancaked the would be tackler near the goal line for another unscathed Adelman score. Kicker Myles Lab provided his third extra point make of the evening off the crossbar and in to end a picture perfect start for the 2018 Louisville Freshman.
