Boys Soccer Two Goals Down, Rallies to Beat Carrollton
Louisville 3, Carrollton 2
The Louisville Leopards Boys Soccer team erased a two goal deficit by scoring three times in the final 27:06 to down the visiting Carrollton Warriors 3-2 at Louisville Leopards Stadium Tuesday. With the win, Louisville improves to 3-8-1 overall and 2-3 in the NBC.
The Leopards had just surrendered a second goal to a desperate Warriors (2-9-1, 0-5) team looking for their first league win of the season. That’s when the alarm went off for Louisville.
The Leopards stormed down the field and trimmed the Warriors advantage in half just 22 seconds later. Travis Pape crossed the ball from the right corner of the field into the box where Derek Zeller flushed it home to make it 2-1 with a little over 27 minutes left to play.
Louisville continued to put pressure on the Carrollton Defense before breaking through again with 23:16 left to go. Micah Storlie got the stop on the other end and two passes later Matt Perez took control of the ball at midfield. Perez dribbled 15 yards down the right sideline before launching the ball cross-field. The pass found the leg of Alex Stefanik who booted it into the top of the net passed the charging goalie. Leopards 2, Warriors 2.
The rally was completed 8 minutes later with the third Louisville goal in a span of 11:51. The same combination of Pape to Zeller that scored the first goal also found the left side of the net for the game-winner with 15:15 to go.
The Leopards played excellent defense to shutdown the Warriors the rest of the way. Louisville has now defeated Carrollton in four straight meetings. The Leopards lead the all-time series 11-2, which includes a 6-1 mark at Louisville.
UP NEXT: The Leopards will next host the GlenOak Golden Eagles on Thursday, October 1 at 7:00 PM.
