Boys Basketball Battles, Falls Short Vs. Crusaders
Central Catholic 67, Louisville 65
The Louisville Leopards Boys Basketball team suffered their first loss of the season at the hands of the visiting Canton Central Catholic Crusaders 67-65 Friday evening at LHS. With the loss, Louisville is now 7-1 on the season.
Drew Noble led the Leopards with 21 points, 12 rebounds, 2 blocks, and 2 steals. Jake Pukys also hit 5 of 8 three-point attempts, dished out 5 assists, and scored 13 of his 19 points in the fourth quarter for Louisville. In addition, Joe Crank had a game-high 7 assists and Chris Libertore had 5 assists.
The Leopards started hot in taking a 20-13 lead at the end of the first quarter. However, the turning point in the contest came in the second quarter that saw Central Catholic outscored Louisville 22-4.
The Leopards cut into the double digit deficit in the second half and got as close as 63-61 after Pukys hit home a pair of technical free throws with 1:20 left in the game. However, the Crusaders hit 9 of 13 free throws in the fourth quarter to take the game.
Christian Creamer & Jerry Leatherman each scored a team-high 14 points and Josh Schott & Luke Stuffel each added 10 to lead Central Catholic. The Crusaders have now defeated the Leopards in each of the past four seasons and lead the known all-time series 31-25.
UP NEXT: The Leopards will next travel to Boardman to take on the Spartans on Tuesday, January 6. JV will begin at 6:00 PM and Varsity will follow at approximately 7:30 PM.
