FULL VIDEO HIGHLIGHTS

Alliance 72, Louisville 47

Alliance hit 5 of their 8 three-pointers on the night in the first quarter and never looked back to remain undefeated with a 72-47 win over Louisville Tuesday night at Harry Fails Gymnasium.  Alex Schooley and Trevor Meredith led the Leps with 11 points each in the loss.

It is never good when your facing an undefeated team that comes out of the gate on fire.  But, that’s exactly happened to the Leopards after the Aviators were cleared for takeoff Tuesday night.  They dropped 4 three-point bombs in the opening 2:11 to take a 13-2 lead.  J.J. Kukura hit three of those triples and would finish with 13 points on the evening.  Vern Martin would hit the other and would lead the Aviators with a game-high 15 points.  Alliance ended up putting up a 24-spot in the opening period, exclamated by a Jalen Mays dunk.  Mays also scored 13 points for Alliance.

The Leopards bounced back in the second quarter to get within 24-18, but Alliance answered with a 10-0 run.  Mike Kelly, who finished with 8 points, hit a three-pointer to break the Aviators streak and start another mini Louisville rally.  Schooley scored and converted the extra free throw after being fouled, Kelly found Meredith for 2 more, and a steal by Billy Lairson led to another Schooley bucket.  The Leps had cut the lead to 40-28 at the break.

In the second half, Schooley fearlessly attacked the lane showing no give-up for the Leps.  He ended up shooting 11 of the Leopards 13 total free throw attempts and made 7 of them.  Meredith also had several offensive rebounds that led to put-back points and Jake O’brien also finished with 9 points for the Leopards.

But the damage had already been done.  Alliance cruised in the second half as Sam Cundiff and Kordelle Phillips became the fourth and fifth players to reach double digits for Alliance.  With the 72-47 victory Alliance improves to 14-0 overall and 8-0 in the conference, needing four more wins to clinch at least a share of the title.  The Leopards fall to 3-9 overall and currently stand in 7th place in the NBC.

JV REPORT

Alliance 37, Louisville 30

The Leps trailed 25-15 at the half, but began the third quarter on an 8-0 run.  Louisville’s press defense helped the Leopards comeback and keep Alliance off the scoreboard for the first five minutes of the third period.  However, Alliance could afford to give up points in the third because they built a 14-2 first quarter lead and also outscored the Leps 8-5 in the final frame to earn the win.

Ronnie Carter led all scorers with 11 points for the Leps, while Jim Dowdell led the Aviators with 10 points.  Joey Duckworth also scored 6 and Alex Hollifield added 5 for the 7-5 Reserve Leopards.
