Leopards Edge Alliance 3-2 to Stay Unbeaten in NBC – Baseball

The Louisville Leopards Varsity Baseball edged the visiting Alliance Aviators 3-2 Tuesday Evening at the Field of Dreams. With the victory, Louisville ups their record to 4-2 on the season and improves their undefeated league mark to 3-0.
Caleb Prasco went a perfect 2-for-2 at the plate with an RBI Double to lead the Leopards offense. Starting Pitcher Jordan Shearer delivered 6 1/3 solid innings on the mound giving up just 2 runs on 2 hits and striking out 6. Cam Lingle also earned his first save by closing out the Aviators in the bottom of the seventh.
Alliance got on the board first in the top half of the first inning. Seth Scott walked on five pitches and later scored on a 1-out, RBI groundout to short by Phillip Romeo. The Aviators only hits in the game came in the third inning. With 1 out, Scott got aboard on an infield hit, stole second, and advanced to third on a groundout. In the next at-bat, Emma Lopez hit a hard grounder to left field scoring Scott from third to give Alliance a 2-0 advantage.
The Leopards struck back in the bottom half of the third to knot the game at 2-2. Dom Mongiardo led off the inning with a walk after drawing the count full. Bryce Zuppe used a sacrifice bunt to put Mongiardo in scoring position. On the next pitch, Cam King reached base on an error and Mongiardo scored from second to cut the Aviator lead in half. Two batters later, Prasco doubled home King to even the score.
The score remained deadlocked until the last of the fifth. Zuppe walked to start the Louisville frame, stole second, and then advance to third on a King’s fly out to right field. Max Hartline batted next and drove in Zuppe with a groundout to second to give LHS a 3-2 advantage.
The Leopard pitching and defense did the rest. After surrendering Alliance’s only 2 hits of the game in the third, Shearer faced the minimum over the next two innings and retired 9 of the next 12 batters pitching into the seventh. The Aviators walked the bases loaded in their final stand with 1 out. However, Louisville got out of the jam with a 3-2 groundout from Prasco at First Base to Catcher Jackson Kandel. The Aviators left the bases loaded when Lingle struck out the final hitter to end the contest.
The two teams will rematch at Alliance on Wednesday.
