Kortis Delivers 7th-Inning Walk-Off as Louisville Edges Howland 5-4 – Baseball

The Louisville Leopards Varsity Baseball Team earned a 5-4 walk-off victory over the visiting Warren Howland Tigers Thursday evening at Andy Aljancic Field. Louisville surged in front 4-1 after the opening inning, but Howland battled back and tied the game 4-4 in the top of the seventh before Caden Kortis delivered the game-winning hit in the bottom half of the inning to lift the Leopards to 5-3 on the season.

My Fit Life Personal Trainer Side AdIt came down to the wire on Thursday at Louisville High School, as Louisville Varsity Leopards grabbed the victory in walk-off fashion, 5-4, over Howland Varsity Tigers. The game was tied at four in the bottom of the seventh when Caden Kortis singled, scoring one run.

Despite falling down by four runs in the first inning, Howland Varsity Tigers tried to fight back. Howland Varsity Tigers closed the gap by scoring on a fielder’s choice, a fielder’s choice, and a walk.

West Main Vet Clinic AdLouisville Varsity Leopards got on the board in the bottom of the first inning after Grayson Brunoni grounded into a fielder’s choice, Jake Beard walked, Brock Leghart singled to right field, and Luke Seaman singled to left field, each scoring one run.

Elliot Gebhardt walked, which helped Howland Varsity Tigers tie the game at four in the top of the seventh.

Gionino's Pizzeria Oakwood - Mobile AdCaleb Mayle led things off on the mound for Louisville Varsity Leopards. The hurler surrendered one hit and three runs over five and one-third innings, striking out five and walking four. Sully O’Donnell stepped on the mound first for Howland Varsity Tigers. The hurler surrendered three hits and four runs over one inning, striking out one and walking four. Cody Zahler, Brunoni, and Jimi Crilow each appeared in relief for Louisville Varsity Leopards.

Zahler, Leghart, Zander Triplett, Beard, Kortis, Seaman, and Xavier Berdella each collected one hit for Louisville Varsity Leopards. Leghart, Kortis, Brunoni, and Seaman each drove in one run for Louisville Varsity Leopards. Louisville Varsity Leopards had patience at the plate, collecting six walks for the game. Louisville Varsity Leopards ran wild on the base paths, collecting four stolen bases for the game.

Gebhardt led Howland Varsity Tigers with three runs batted in from the number eight spot in the lineup. Brayden Kovarik, Deacon Mock, and Bode Biggin each collected one hit for Howland Varsity Tigers. Santino Donatelli paced Howland Varsity Tigers with three walks. Overall, the team had patience at the plate, piling up eight walks for the game.

Louisville Varsity Leopards play at home on Tuesday against Archbishop Hoban in their next game.
