Louisville Belts Record 6 Homers in Loss to Defending State Champ Assumption – Softball

The Louisville Leopards Varsity Softball Team tied a team record with 6 home runs, but it would not be enough as they fell to Kentucky defending state champion Assumption 15-11. With the loss, Louisville drops to 2-3 on the season.

Kaitlin Twinem hit two home runs and drove in four, but Louisville Varsity Leopards lost to Assumption Varsity Rockets 15-11 on Thursday. Twinem homered in the second and sixth innings.
Despite the loss, Louisville Varsity Leopards did collect nine hits in the high-scoring affair. Unfortunately, Assumption Varsity Rockets had 14 hits on the way to victory.
Assumption Varsity Rockets jumped out to the lead in the bottom of the first inning after Sofia Young singled, scoring one run, Jaelynn Oaks doubled, scoring two runs, Ella Wells homered to left field, scoring two runs, and Harper Poole homered to left field, scoring two runs.
Louisville Varsity Leopards made the score 7-4 in the top of the second inning when Twinem homered to left field, scoring two runs, and Leah Claugus homered to left field, scoring two runs.
Alli Schaffer homered to center field, scoring two runs in the bottom of the second for the Assumption Varsity Rockets.
Anna Sirohman hit a solo home run to center field in the top of the third for the Louisville Varsity Leopards.
Assumption Varsity Rockets scored five runs on three hits in the bottom of the third inning. Jordan Goodman singled, scoring one run, Shae O’Neill induced Maleya Giddens to hit into a fielder’s choice, but one run scored, Young singled, scoring two runs, and Oaks grounded out, scoring one run.
Louisville Varsity Leopards made the score 14-9 in the top of the fourth inning when Katelynn Miller homered to left field, scoring three runs, and Twinem singled, scoring one run.
Louisville Varsity Leopards made the score 15-11 in the top of the sixth inning when Destiny Hanze hit a solo home run to center field, and Twinem hit a solo home run to left field.
Maddie Wood started in the circle for Assumption Varsity Rockets. The hurler allowed three hits and five runs over three innings, striking out seven and walking five.
Sirohman and Claugus each collected multiple hits for Louisville Varsity Leopards. Hanze led Louisville Varsity Leopards with two walks. Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, collecting eight walks for the game.
Assumption Varsity Rockets collected 14 hits in the game. Oaks drove the middle of the lineup, leading Assumption Varsity Rockets with four runs batted in. The infielder went 2-for-4 on the day. Grace Sander, Ava Lou Mattingly, Oaks, Young, and Goodman each collected two hits for Assumption Varsity Rockets. Sander led Assumption Varsity Rockets with two walks. Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, amassing five walks for the game. Young stole two bases. Assumption Varsity Rockets were sure-handed and didn’t commit a single error. Poole made the most plays with 10.
Louisville Varsity Leopards will travel to Lafayette Varsity Generals for their next game on Friday.
