The Louisville Leopards Boys Varsity Basketball Team fell to the visiting Canton Central Catholic Crusaders 59-43 Tuesday night at Louisville High School. Louisville has dropped four straight and now sits at 8-11 on the season.

Rogers Leads Leopards’ Hot Start, Scores Team-High 18

West Main Vet Clinic AdCohen Rogers scored 13 of his team-high 18 points in the opening quarter to lead the Leopards. Rogers hit 3 of his 4 three-pointers in the first quarter as Louisville took a 21-19 advantage after the first eight minutes of action.

Rogers later hit another three-pointer as part of his other 5 points in the fourth quarter.

Gionino's Pizzeria Oakwood - Mobile AdDrake Wilson and Max Mathie also hit a pair of three-pointers each for the Leopards. Wilson finished in double figures with 10 points and Mathie registered 6 points. Blake Carr came off the bench in the second half and scored a pair of baskets to add 4. Jake Baker also scored 3 and Brandon Sanders went coast-to-coast with an opening quarter basket for 2 points.


Central Takes Control in Second Half

After erupting for 21 points in the opening quarter, Louisville managed just 22 the rest of the way.

Wilson’s three-pointer tied the game at 28-28 in the second quarter, but Central answered with a 12-0 run to take a 40-28 lead in the third quarter. They would hold Louisville scoreless for the first 5:23 of the second half.

Back-to-back three-pointers by Mathie and Rogers to open the fourth quarter shrunk the deficit to 45-39. However, the Crusaders answered with a 6-0 run that included back-to-back steals for scores and ballooned their advantage back up to 51-39. Central would close the night on a 14-4 run to put the game away.


Vlacovsky Scores Game-High 21 for Crusaders

My Fit Life Personal Trainer Side AdLance Vlacovsky scored 10 of his game-high 21 points in the opening quarter to lead the Crusaders. He would finish with 3 of Central’s 7 three-pointers in the game and go a perfect 4-for-4 from the free throw line.

Will Minor and Jake Bowling also finished in double figures for the Crusaders. Minor made 5 field goals, also went 4-for-4 from the line, and scored 14. Bowling made a pair of three-pointers and scored 8 of his 10 points in the opening half. 

Other scorers for Central Catholic included Joey Meyer with 6, and Tyler Cook and Max Frey who tacked on 4 points each.

The Crusaders are now an even 10-10 on the season.


Louisville Vs. Central All-Time Series

Louisville had won the previous three matchups between the two squads dating back to 2021. The Leopards trail the all-time series 28-32 dating back to their first known meeting in 1931.
