The Louisville Leopards Girls Varsity Basketball Team fell to the visiting Tallmadge Blue Devils 52-37 in their season opener Friday night at Louisville High School.

Baker Starts Senior Season with Double-Digit Performance

Maggie Baker started off her senior season in leading the Lady Leopards with a team-high 10 points to go along with 4 rebounds and 2 assists. Baker hit a pair of three-pointers in the opening quarter to get Louisville back in the game after they fell behind 10-2 from the onset.

Fellow senior, Mabel Kiko split a pair of free throws late in the first quarter to cap off an 8-3 Leopard run and get Louisville to within 13-10 late in the opening period.

Salmons Scores 9 in Louisville Debut

Senior Mikayla Salmons scored in every quarter and finished with 9 points and a team-leading 3 assists in her Louisville debut, after transferring from GlenOak in the offseason. She also corralled 4 rebounds matching fellow seniors in Baker and Mabel Kiko, who also added a free throw.

Tanner and Tillett Highlight Underclassmen

Freshman Mikyala Tanner buried a pair of three-pointers in the third quarter and finished with 8 points in her varsity debut.

Sophomore Ella Tillett picked up right where she left off from last year by scoring 4 of her 6 points in the fourth quarter and pulling down a team best 6 rebounds. She also registered a steal and made Louisville’s defensive of play of the game with a massive rejection just before halftime.

Freshman Lilly Seaman and Ava Seitz also got on the board in their high school debut. Seitz split a pair of free throws in the opening quarter. Seaman also rattled home a jumper via a feed from Baker to get the Lady Leopards to within 21-19 with 4:43 left in the second quarter.

Tallmadge Takeover

Tallmadge took over after that ending the half on a 7-0 run to take a 28-19 lead into the half. They held a double-digit lead for most of the third quarter and took a 41-29 advantage into the final frame.

Louisville chopped the Blue Devil lead to single-digits at 44-35, but a 6-0 Tallmadge run put the game out of reach and they cruised to a 52-37 win.

Pooler and Richardson Lead Blue Devils with 11 Each

Junior guard Raegan Pooler and sophomore guard Naomi Richardson finished with a game-high 11 points each to lead the Blue Devils. Richardson converted 3 three-pointers and scored all of her points in the first half. Pooler scored all of her points from within the arch finishing with 5 of her 7 second-half points in the fourth quarter.

Ten different Tallmadge players scored from the field during the contest. Jada Kendrick, Corinne Pooler, and Sophie Worthington also added 6 points each for the Lady Devils, who finished 16-8 a season ago.

Louisville Vs. Tallmadge Girls Basketball Series

This was Tallmadge’s first-ever victory over Louisville. The Lady Leopards won the previous four meetings in 2015, 2016, 2019, and 2022.

Louisville still leads the all-time series 4-1, which includes a 2-1 mark in games played at Louisville in the series.
