Louisville Rallies to End Norton’s 17-Match Winning Streak on Senior Night – Volleyball

The Louisville Leopards Varsity Volleyball team closed out their regular season in thrilling fashion Thursday night at Louisville High School, defeating the visiting Norton Panthers in four sets 22-25, 25-23, 25-14, 25-13. With the win, the Lady Leopards improve to 13-8 overall and have now captured victories in eight of their last ten matches.
Lady Leopard Senior Night Standouts
Senior Taylor McCully led the charge for Louisville, recording 11 kills, 15 digs, 2 blocks, and an ace in her final home appearance. Senior Setter Carlee Rhome ran a dynamic offense with 24 assists, while also adding 20 digs and a match-high 5 aces. Senior Emma Kroah anchored the back row with 27 digs, and senior Mabel Kiko made her presence felt at the net with 6 kills and 8 blocks. The Leopards’ all-around effort and composure down the stretch helped them hand the Panthers just their second loss of the season.
Louisville End Norton’s 17-Match Win Streak
Coming into the matchup, Norton boasted a 19-1 record, a 17-match winning streak, and a top-13 ranking in the latest OHSVCA Division IV State Coaches Poll. Louisville rose to the occasion, rallying after dropping a close opening set 22-25, secured another tight second set 25-23. The Lady Leopards won convincingly in the final two sets 25-14 and 25-13 to close out the match.
The Panthers defeated the Leopards in two close 25-22, 25-23 earlier this season in the second game of a tri-match at GlenOak on September 13. Norton is the highest seed seed in the DIV Northeast 5 District and was voted the #2 seed out of 39 teams in the Northeast Division IV Super District.
UP NEXT: The #16 seed Lady Leopards will next take on the #21 seed CVCA Royals in the DIII Northeast 1 Sectional Finals on Thursday, October 16. Match is set to begin at 5:00 PM from Boardman High School.
Leopard JV Finish Turn-Around Season with Sweep
The junior varsity Leopards also ended their season on a high note, defeating Norton in straight sets 25-19, 25-19 to finish with a record of 11-8.
The Louisville JV was once 2-6 on the season back on September 13 before winning 9 of their final 11 matches to finish with a winning mark.
Louisville 8th Grade Wins Stark-Summit Championship
The celebration extended beyond the high school gym as the Louisville Middle School 8th Grade Volleyball Team captured the Stark-Summit Invitational Championship at Louisville Middle School Wednesday evening.
The Lady Leopards topped the Massillon Tigers in Tuesday’s semifinals 25-20, 25-19 at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic School. Louisville then rallied past the St. Paul Spartans in a dramatic championship match 17-25, 25-19, 26-24 to claim the title. Their determination, teamwork, and resilience shined as they closed the season with a 14-8 record and a tournament crown.
