Louisville Edged at Fairless in First Five Set Match – Volleyball

The Louisville Leopards Varsity Volleyball team came up just short on the road Saturday, falling to the Fairless Falcons in a hard-fought five-set match 22-25, 25-22, 25-23, 22-25, 11-15. The loss snaps Louisville’s 5-match win streak as they drop to 10-7 on the season. 

Leopard Standouts

Mabel Kiko paced the Louisville attack with 14 kills and added 2 blocks at the net. Taylor McCully turned in a stellar all-around performance, racking up 26 digs to go along with 10 kills, 4 blocks, and 2 aces. Carlee Rhome directed the offense with 31 assists and added 11 digs, while also contributing 16 service points and 4 aces to keep the Leopards in the fight.

Back-and-Forth Contest

The two teams traded momentum throughout the afternoon, with Fairless taking the opening set 25-22 before Louisville answered with back-to-back wins in the second and third frames. The Falcons rallied to force a decisive fifth set with a 25-22 victory in the fourth, then outlasted the Leopards 15-11 in the final stanza to seal the match.

This was the first five-set match of the season for Louisville after playing in 5 five-set matches last season.

JV Flips the Script on Season

The junior varsity Leopards secured a straight-set win over host Fairless 25-18, 25-13. The JV Lady Leopards were once 2-6 on the season, but have now ripped off wins in six of their last seven matches to improve to a winning 8-7 mark on the year.

UP Next: The Lady Leopards will next host the East Liverpool Potters for Youth Night on Thursday, October 2. Freshman will begin at 4:30 PM, JV will be follow around 5:30 PM, and Varsity will conclude the evening with an approximate 6:30 PM start.
