The Louisville Leopards Boys Varsity Soccer Team scored twice in the second half to rally past the host Alliance Aviators 2-1 Thursday night at the Rockhill Soccer Complex. With their second consecutive win, the Leopards improve to 5-6-1 on the season.
Alliance Strikes First on Early PK
Alliance opened the scoring with less than four minutes remaining in the opening half when senior forward DiAngelo Fisk converted a penalty kick. Fisk sent his shot right as Louisville goalkeeper Justin Keister dove left, notching his 12th goal of the season and giving the Aviators an early 1-0 advantage.
Busby Scores the Equlizer
The Leopards tied the game early in the second half off a corner kick. The ball deflected off an Alliance player near the far-left side of the box and bounced back toward the center of the goal area. Carter Busby collected it and tapped a low shot just inside the left post to tie the game at 1-1 with 34:32 remaining.
Keister Finds Redemption with Clutch PK Save
Just 21 seconds later, Alliance drew another penalty after a shove inside the box. Fisk stepped up for his second PK attempt, again going to the right—but this time Keister anticipated the direction and made the diving save to keep the game tied.
Mayle Nets Game-Winner on Burton Assist
The Leopards capitalized on the momentum shortly after. Brandon Sanders threaded a perfect pass from midfield, splitting two defenders and hitting Carter Burton in stride on the left wing. Burton carried the ball into the penalty box with a defender on his hip and, instead of shooting, sent a sharp cross to the middle where Maddox Mayle was waiting. Mayle calmly redirected the pass into the back of the net, giving Louisville a 2-1 lead with 32:04 left.
Neither team scored the rest of the way and the Leopards held on for a 2-1 victory.
Louisville Captures Series Lead Over Alliance
In 2011, Louisville fell to 1-9-1 against Alliance after a 1-0 shutout loss at Rockhill. Since then the Leopards have dominated the series agains the Aviators. They have won the last five meetings and taken 10 of the last 11 from Alliance overall. Louisville now holds the edge in the all-time series 12-11-1 with the series being tied 6-6-1 in games played at Alliance.
The Aviators drop to 7-3-3 with the loss.
