Barwick Scores 1000th Career Point in Leopards Loss at Hoover – Girls Basketball

The Louisville Leopards Girls Varsity Basketball Team fell to the host North Canton Hoover Vikings 48-36 Wednesday Evening on the Dick Snyder Court at Hoover High School. With the loss, Louisville drops to 4-8 on the season.

Barwick Joins 1000 Point Club

Courtney Barwick scored 10 of her game high 17 points in the first half to lead the Leopards. She scored her 1,000th career point on her first of two second quarter three-pointers with 7:30 to go before halftime.

Barwick was congratulated by her teammates briefly before play continued with the Leopards on defense. Louisville called timeout at the next stoppage and Barwick was celebrated by her teammates and coaches. She was presented a “1,000 Points” poster and she embraced her mother in the stands after that.

Leopards Close the Gap in the 2nd Quarter

The Lady Vikings stormed out of the gate on 16-2 run and the Lady Leopards trailed 18-4 prior to Barwick’s millennium shot. That three-pointer kickstarted a string of 11 straight points for Louisville as they held North Canton scoreless for the first three minutes of the second quarter.

The 14-1 run by the Lady Leopards ended with Maggie Baker’s second three-pointer of the period to get LHS to within 19-18. Baker would score all 9 of her points in the second quarter, which included making 3 of 4 shots from the free throw line.

All 4 of Louisville’s three-pointers in the game came during the second quarter. Barwick’s second three-pointer knotted the game at 23-23 with 1:34 to go before halftime.

Vikings Carry Momentum into 2nd Half

Olivia Yocum hit a three-pointer in the right corner with just seconds to go before the buzzer sounded to give the Vikings a 26-23 advantage heading into the locker room. This would be the start of a 8-2 Hoover run that extended into the fourth quarter. Ella Tillett’s lay in via a near mid-court pass from Barwick proved to be the Leopards only points of the third quarter. Tillett and Karis Miglich would both finish with 4, while Mabel Kiko rounded out the LHS scoring with 2.

The Vikings took a 31-25 lead into the final stanza. Louisville managed to get to with 33-28 on a Barwick basket in the lane with a little over six minutes remaining in the game. However, Hoover answered with a 13-0 run to take their largest lead of the game at 46-28 with 2:35 to play. The Lady Vikings walked away with a 12-point victory win the final horn sounded.

McCort and Yocum Score Team High 14 Each for Hoover

Three different North Canton players finished in double figures lead by Zoe McCort and Yocum who dropped in a team high 14 points each. Yocum hit 4 of the Vikings 6 makes from beyond the arc during the game. McCort and Evie Burke also recorded triples as well.

Aubrey Fisher was the final Hoover player to reach double digits with 11. Other scorers for the Lady Vikings included Burke who added 5 and Stella Somers who tacked on 4.

Vikings Recapture All-Time Series Lead

Louisville had won the previous two meetings against North Canton Hoover to tie the series back up, but the Vikings victory gives them the all-time edge 24-23. The Lady Leopards have now dropped 7 of their last 8 matchups played in North Canton and are now 9-11 on the road at Hoover all-time.

Louisville is now 0-3 against Federal League foes this season. They will look to reverse their fortunes when they play at 8-4 Crestwood next Wednesday.
