The Louisville Leopards Wrestling Team had an impressive showing at the Medina Invitational Wrestling Tournament this past weekend at Medina High School. The Leopards tallied 137.5 points to secure 5th place out of 53 competing teams.

Criss and Rhoads Both Take 4th to Lead Leopards

Aric Criss (138) and Colton Rhoads (120) were standouts for Louisville, both earning top-4 finishes and scoring a combined 47.5 points for the team.

Criss placed 4th in the 138-pound division, starting the tournament with four consecutive victories, including three by pin and one by 18-3 technical fall. He advanced to the semifinals before being defeated by Austin McKee (Buckeye) by 14-4 major decision. Criss bounced back with another 18-3 technical fall in the consolation semifinal over Daine Bayer (Liberty Center). However, he would fall in the 3rd place match to Ryder Alberty (Galion) by 13-2 major decision. Criss led the Leopards in points for the tournament racking up 25.

Rhoads also finished 4th in the 120-pound weight class, scoring 22.5 points. He dominated early rounds with a 16-0 technical fall and a first period pin to advance to the quarterfinals. Rhoads was then pinned in the opening period of his championship quarterfinal against Taegan Gilmore (Medina) to drop to consolation. He rebounded in the consolation bracket with three straight victories, including a 16-2 major decision in the consolation semifinal against John LoFaso (Padua Franciscan). He narrowly missed 3rd place, falling 2-1 in a tie-breaker to Spencer Shore (Miami East) in the consolation finals.

Bolyard Places 5th in 157

Abel Bolyard (157) placed 5th, contributing 16 team points. Bolyard displayed his technical prowess with back-to-back major decisions in the early rounds. After advancing to the 157 championship semifinals, he dropped a an 11-7 decision to Lukas Jordan (Lake). Later in the 5th place match, Bolyard defeated Will Schnabel (Avon Lake) by a decisive 17-5 major decision.

Barker Earns 6th in 132

Kaiden Barker (132) secured 6th place, scoring 17 team points. Barker demonstrated dominance early in the tournament outscoring opponents 64-15 in three technical fall victories. Despite a 7-4 loss to Michael Kenney (Chaminade Julienne) in the 132 quarterfinals, Barker continued his strong showing in the consolation bracket. However, an injury forced him to forfeit the 5th place match.

Smith Secures 7th in 165

Wyatt Smith (165) added 12 team points with a 7th place finish. Smith highlighted his tournament with a third-round pin and capped off his run with a 12-0 major decision over Trey Harvey (Perkins) in the 7th place match.

Leopards Show Depth Across Weight Classes

The Leopards’ depth was evident throughout the tournament, with multiple wrestlers advancing deep into their brackets:

Zander McCrobie (285): Earned 10 team points with a strong performance that included three victories by pin.
Beau Nezbeth (150): Scored 8.5 points, including a technical fall and major decision in the consolation rounds.
Mikhail Montgomery (126): Scored 8 points with two wins by fall.
Xavier Pollard (113): Scored 7.5 points, winning by technical fall and by pin in the early championship rounds.
