Louisville 11, Carrollton 3
The Louisville Lady Leopards Varsity Softball Team clinched their 8th straight Outright NBC Championship with an 11-3 victory over the host Carrollton Warriors at the Field of Dreams Complex Wednesday Evening. With the win, Louisville finishes the 2016 campaign with an overall record of 21-7 and an NBC record of 13-1.
Kaycee Ollis batted 4-for-5 with a triple, double, and 5 RBIs to lead the Leopards. Emily Cantley and Aliyah English also finished 4-for-5 at the plate for the game. Cantley drove in 3 runs and English had a double & an RBI.
Louisville finished with a season high 19 hits as a team. Teagan Rice also batted 3-for-5 with a double. Peyton McKeever and Rylee Squire finished with a pair of hits each.
In the circle, Morgan Harris pitched a complete game, gave up 2 earned runs on 3 hits, and struck out 8 for the Leopards. Harris finishes the season with a team best 9 wins against 3 defeats.
The Warriors only runs came in the bottom of the 4th inning. Carrollton loaded the bases and McFarland singled to center to break the shutout. On the same play, an overthrow scooted through the opening in the Leopards dugout allowing 2 more runs to score for the Warriors. This cut the Carrollton deficit to 5-3.
Louisville would respond with a run in the fifth inning and a 5-run sixth inning to take full command of the game. Harris would retire 9 of the final 10 batters she faced. The only one she didn’t was picked off at first base by Ollis at Catcher who threw down to Squire at 1st Base.
With the victory, the Lady Leopards have now defeated the Lady Warriors in 11 straight meetings. Louisville now leads the all-time series 39-17, which includes a 17-10 mark in games played at Carrollton.
Lady Leopards Softball is in elite company with the win. They are just the third Northeastern Buckeye Conference program to win 8 straight outright league titles in the history of the conference. Only Louisville Leopards Boys Cross Country (10 Straight from 2006-2015) and West Branch Warriors Wrestling (8 Straight from 2007-2014) have previously accomplished the feat.
