Kaycee Ollis Solo Homer in 1st Inning
The Louisville Lady Leopards Varsity Softball Team avenged their only home NBC loss from last season with a 4-0 shutout of the visiting Marlington Dukes Tuesday Evening at the Diamond of Dreams. With the victory, Louisville improves to 14-6 overall and remains alone in first place at 9-1 in the NBC.
Last season the Lady Dukes came to town and ended the Lady Leopards 58-game conference winning streak in horrifying fashion. Marlington erupted for 17 runs in a 17-3 run-rule victory over Louisville back on April 21, 2015.
On Tuesday, the Lady Leopards flipped the script. Morgan Harris and Sarah Cantley combined in the circle to shutout the Lady Dukes. Harris pitched the first four innings, gave up just 2 hits, and struck out 4 to earn the win. Cantley pitched the final three frames, gave up only 2 hits, and struck 3 to earn the save.
All four of Louisville’s runs came from the long ball. Kaycee Ollis led off the Leopards first with a bomb to left-center. Peyton McKeever also blasted a solo homer to left field in the third inning. Both Ollis and McKeever have hit three home runs this season.
Finally, Aliyah English hit the first home run of her varsity career over the fence in left field that also scored Emily Cantley. The 2-run shot put Louisville ahead 4-0 in the fifth inning. The Lady Leopards have now cracked 20 homers as a team this season.
Louisville out-hit Marlington 8-4. Ollis finished 2-for-4 at the top of the lineup to lead the Leopards. Lead-off batter Erica Robinson also batted 2-for-2 for the Dukes.
With the victory, the Leopards have now defeated the Dukes in 13 of the past 14 meetings. Marlington once led the all-time series by 10 games, now Louisville leads it 30-28 which includes a 16-13 mark at home.
