Louisville 4, Carrollton 3
The Louisville Lady Leopards Softball Team rallied for 3 runs in the bottom of the 7th to stun the visiting Carrollton Warriors 4-3 at the Diamond of Dreams Tuesday. With the win, Louisville improves to 8-4 overall and 6-1 in the NBC at the midway point of their league schedule.
The Warriors took a 3-1 lead into the bottom of the seventh, but the top of the Leopards lineup was due up. Catcher Kaycee Ollis ignited the Louisville rally by blasting a 2-0 pitch over the fence in right-center. The dinger was her second of the season and it cut the Carrollton lead to just 3-2.
Two batters later, Centerfielder Grace Jackson came to the plate and quickly fell behind 0-2. After watching a ball, she ripped a game-tying solo home run over the same right-center field fence to knot the game at 3-3. The roundtripper was her 6th of the season and the 27th of her career. With the shot, Jackson ties Katie Cozy (2012-15) for the most career home runs in team history. The Lady Leopards have now gone yard 12 times this year.
Emily Cantley finished 2-for-3 with an RBI single in the first inning that scored Teagan Rice. In the seventh inning, Cantley got aboard via a 5-pitch walk. Then Aliyah English doubled to right-center advancing Cantley to third base. The ensuing Warriors throw-in was mishandled and spun free onto the diamond. Cantley was sent home and she slid in for the game-winning run.
On the rubber, Sarah Cantley (4-2) earned the win by pitching a complete game, giving up just 2 earned runs on 5 hits, and striking out 8. Savannah Miner and Rice each had 2 hits a piece at the plate for the Leopards.
With the victory, the Leopards have now won 10 straight over the Warriors. Louisville now leads the all-time series 38-17, which includes a 22-7 mark at home.
UP NEXT: The Lady Leopards will next travel to Jackson to take on the Polar Bears on Wednesday, April 20 at 5:00 PM.
