Baseball Falls in 12th Inning Against Aviators
Alliance 7, Louisville 6, 12 Innings
The Louisville Leopards Varsity Baseball Team suffered a heart-breaking 7-6 12 Inning loss to the Alliance Aviators Wednesday Evening at Louisville High School. With the loss, Louisville drops to 1-5 overall and 0-3 in the NBC.
Alliance’s Emma Lopez reached on error in the bottom of the 12th inning to score Anthony Young from second base for the game-winning s run. Lopez would finish with 3 of the Aviators 11 hits, which included a double in extra innings that began eight days before at Alliance’s Craven Field.
Back on April 5, the two teams battled back and forth before the game was called because of darkness in the top of the tenth. The Aviators built a 6-0 lead by the end of the third inning. Dillon McCurdy led Alliance by batting 2-for-3 with 5 runs batted in. He started the scoring with an RBI single in the first inning and then topped that by cracking a Grand Slam in the bottom of the third.
The Leopards chipped away at the lead via a fourth inning RBI Single by Reis Rankin and a fifth inning RBI Single by Cam White. Rankin would finish 4-for-6 and White would finish 2-for-5 in the game for Louisville. Brody Hahn also had a multi-hit gave for the Leopards with a 2-for-4 performance at the dish.
Louisville would explode for four more runs in the sixth inning. Rankin scored on a passed ball and then Jake Adams doubled home Tyler Adams two pitches later. Four batters later, Dalton Deckerd delivered a 2-out, 2-run single to center to knot the game at 6-all.
Twelve straight goose eggs filled in the inning frames before Alliance broke through for the game-winning run. Phillip Romeo earned the win on the mound for the Aviators working 8 innings and striking out 12.
Despite the loss, Stephen Kerzan (1-1) worked 4 2/3 innings, gave up no earned runs on 4 hits, and struck out 4 for the Leopards. Starter Paul Howard also threw the first 7 innings and rung up 10.
The loss snaps Louisville’s 5-game winning streak against Alliance. The Aviators last defeated the Leopards 1-0 on April 17, 2013. While the game’s final innings were played at Louisville, this was still technically a road game for the Leopards. Thus, it is Louisville’s first road loss against Alliance since they fell to the Aviators 2-1 on April 8, 2008.
UP NEXT: The Leopards will next travel to Marlington to take on the Dukes on Thursday, April 14 at 5:00 PM.
