Boys Basketball Pounces on Panthers 61-45

The Louisville Leopards Boys Varsity Basketball earned a 61-45 victory over the visiting Perry Panthers Monday Night at LHS. With the win, Louisville is now 6-2 on the season.
Drew Noble scored a team-high 19 points, pulled down a game-high 12 rebounds, and also had a game-high 3 blocks to lead the Leopards. Chris Libertore also dropped in 15 points and Jake Pukys added 12. Both Libertore and Pukys pulled down 6 rebounds and recorded 5 assists each for Louisville.
The Leopards jumped out to an 8-3 lead, but the Panthers roared back with an 11-0 run to go ahead 14-8. Louisville would knot the game back up at 17-17 when Pukys hit his third triple in the final seconds of the first quarter.
Perry scored the first 6 points of the second frame and held that advantage for more than half the quarter. However, Louisville scored the final 12 points of the half to take a 35-29 advantage into the break.
The Leopards carried their run into the third quarter in building a double digit lead. Altogether, Louisville’s 17-0 run held Perry scoreless for a span of 6:09 of gametime. To follow that up, the Leopards would tack on 10 more points before the Panthers would score from the field again. This gave Louisville their biggest advantage of the night at 50-32 and they cruised to victory after that.
The Panthers were led by Wyatt Vega who scored a game-high 22 points and tallied 3 blocks. Kyle Blend also made 3 three-pointers & scored 15 and Jetty Mercier finished with 3 steals for Perry.
The Leopards have now beaten the Panthers two straight times after Perry won the previous 12 meetings before that. Louisville stills trails the all-time series 15-29, which includes a 9-12 mark at home. This is the first time the Panthers have journeyed to Louisville since January 20, 1989 (PHS won 66-45) and the first time the Leopards have defeated Perry at LHS since a 57-48 win back on January 7, 1983. Louisville is now 3-1 against out of conference foes this season.
UP NEXT: The Leopards will next host the Green Bulldogs on Saturday, January 2. JV will begin at 6:00 PM and Varsity will follow around 7:30 PM.
