Wrestling Splits Dual Matches With NBC Warriors

Carrollton 39, Louisville 26

The Louisville Leopards Varsity Wrestling Team fell to the visiting Carrollton Warriors 39-26 Thursday Night at Louisville High School. With the loss, Louisville drops to 8-2 overall and 3-2 against the NBC.

Andy Graham (106) led the Leopards by earning a 20-3 technical fall victory in the second match. The 5-3 Louisville lead would be their last of the night as Carrollton won 7 of the next 9 matches to take a commanding 39-11 lead.

Ryan Jakubiak (120), Brock Mehl (152), and Jesse Curlutu (182) all earned decisions for the Leopards. Jimmy Leonard (195) and Frankie Falcone (220) also won the final two matches by forfeit.

Louisville 31, West Branch 30

Back on January 14, Louisville rallied for a stunning 31-30 victory over the host West Branch Warriors. The win was the Leopards first over the Warriors since they beat them 32-30 back in 2006.

Five straight West Branch victories had the Leopards trailing 30-16 with four matches remaining. Louisville needed wins in all four to earn the team victory. Brock Mehl (152) earned an 11-5 decision to begin the Leopards run. Next, Jager Kendrick (160) won via a 7-2 decision and Satchel Strickmaker (170) pitched a 2-0 shutout to put Louisville within 30-25 heading into the final 182-matchup.

Jesse Curlutu (182) would complete the Leopards comeback with a pin 3:10 into the match. The victory snapped a streak of 9 straight dual match wins by the Warriors.

Louisville also started strong by earning wins in 4 of the first  match-ups. Jimmy Leonard (195) won by major decision 18-5, Chase Lautzenheiser (220) won by forfeit, Andy Graham (106) edged his opponent 2-1, and Jackson Simpson (113) claimed a 6-1 decision.

UP NEXT: The Leopards will next compete at the Top Gun Tournament at Alliance beginning on Friday, January 15 at 9:30 AM.
