Wrestling Downs New Philadelphia, Falls to Ashland in Regional
The Louisville Leopards competed at the DII, Sub-Region 12-B OHSAA Tournament held at Ashland
High School Wednesday Evening. After drawing a first round bye, the Leopards defeated the 6th Seeded New Philadelphia Quakers 49-24 in the Second Round. However, Louisville fell to the 2nd Seeded Ashland Arrows 49-12 in the Regional Quarterfinals. The Leopards are now 9-3 on the season overall.
Louisville 49, New Philadelphia 24
Louisville set the tone early by winning each of the first four match-ups in taking a 22-0 lead. Jackson Simpson (106) started the run with a 12-4 Major Decision. Andy Graham (113), Ryan Jakubiak (120), and Dakoda Dehart (126) all followed with consecutive pins for the Leopards.
Louisville answered every New Philadelphia victory with a win of their own. After losing by fall in the 132 matchup, the Leopards Michael Seaman responded with a pin in the 138 matchup. The Quakers won the 145 match via decision and Brock Mehl matched it with a 6-5 decision in the 152 match.
Louisville won the next three matches by pin to ice the contest. Jager Kendrick (160), Satchel Strickmaker (170), and Jimmy Leonard (182) all claimed wins by fall. This put the Leopards ahead 49-9.
New Philadelphia would win all three of the top weight classes, but the damage had already been done.
Ashland 49, Louisville 12
The Leopards tournament run hit a dead end against a tough Ashland squad. The Arrows won 11 of the 14 matches to move on to the DII, Region 12 Semifinals next week.
Leonard (182) had the only win by pin for Louisville. Graham (113) also won his match by decision 3-0 as did Kendrick (160) 7-2.
