The Louisville Leopards Freshman Football Team fell to the visiting West Branch Warriors 16-14 in their season opener Thursday Evening at Louisville Leopards Stadium.

Dougherty Runs for a Pair of 3 Yard Touchdowns

Runningback Camden Dougherty scored on a pair of 3 yard touchdown runs to lead Louisville on offense. Dougherty broke the ice with 6:01 left in the second quarter to give the Leopards a 7-0 lead. He later put LHS in front 14-8 with just 1:52 left in the game. Kicker Seth Colley converted both point after kicks for LHS.

Dougherty’s first touchdown was setup by a fumble recovery and 25 yard run by Brayden Gross. Louisville’s fourth quarter score came two plays after quarterback Cooper Rice hooked up with wide receiver Kolton Loy for a 45 yard gain to the 6 yard line.

West Branch Answers Back Quickly

The Warriors had a quick answer for each Leopard score. Exactly 100 seconds after Dougherty’s first touchdown, West Branch broke free for a 43 yard touchdown run with 4:21 to go in the first half. They then scored the conversion to go ahead 8-7, a lead they would carry into halftime and throughout the third quarter.

West Branch needed just over a minute to answer the Leopards fourth quarter score. The Warriors went to the air and found the endzone on a 40 yard reception to knot the game at 14-14. A successful quarterback sweep on the two-point conversion try then put them ahead 16-14 with 1:20 left to play.

Louisville was able to journey to the West Branch 28 yard line on their final drive. It would end prematurely as the Warriors came up with a game-clinching interception at the 25 yard line to seal the contest.
