Softball Defeats Vienna Mathews & Akron Garfield at KSU Scrimmages
Louisville 5, Vienna Mathews 2, 4 5/6 Innings
The Lady Leopards overcame an early deficit to defeat last year’s DIV Kent Regional Runner-Up 5-2 in 4 5/6 Innings of play.
Mathews looked dominate from the start as they retired the first 6 Louisville hitters and took a 1-0 advantage. However, the Lady Leopards broke in the third inning as Kylie Zifer led off with a triple and Lexi Givens drove her home to tie the game at 1-1. Louisville took the lead in the top of the fourth when Annie Woolf and Emily Cantley hit back-to-back 1-out doubles.
In the bottom of the fourth, the Mustangs knotted the game back up at 2 a piece and then loaded the bases. But the Lady Leopards got out of the jam via a 5-2-3 double play to keep the game tied.
Louisville scored thrice in the top of the fifth to take the contest. Grace Jackson provided an RBI double that scored Morgan Harris. Then she came home via Katie Cozy’s own RBI double. Woolf then drove home Cozy for the final run of the contest to give the Lady Leps a 5-2 advantage.
Vienna Mathews loaded the bases with 2 outs in the bottom of the frame when the game was called due to time.
