Louisville Falls to Northwest 61-53 in District Final Rematch – Boys Basketball

The Louisville Leopards Boys Varsity Basketball Team fell to the visiting Northwest Indians 61-53 Saturday night at Louisville High School. With the loss, Louisville drops to 2-3 on the season.

Rogers Scores Team-High 15 to Lead Leopards
Cohen Rogers scored 11 of his team-high 15 points in the second half to lead the Leopards. His three-pointer to open the second half knotted the game at 28-28 after Louisville had trailed by as many as 14 in the second quarter. Rogers added two more three-pointers in the fourth quarter, accounting for 8 points in the final stanza.
Balcomb and Wilson Score 11 Each for LHS
Cayden Balcomb and Drake Wilson both scored 11 points and dished out a team-best 3 assists each. Wilson scored 8 of his 11 points in the opening half, while Balcom dropped in 9 of his 11 points in the second half. Wilson finished with a game-high 6 steals and pulled down a team-leading 5 rebounds.
Cody Zahler also scored a pair of buckets as part of an 11-4 Louisville run to close the second quarter. The opening half ended with Luke Boldon banging home a three-pointer as the buzzer sounded to get the Leopards to within 28-25 at the break. Colton Dougherty also made a three-pointer earlier in the second quarter.
Brandon Sanders scored all 4 of his points in the fourth quarter, while also recording 4 rebounds and a pair of steals. Gabe Stoffer also got into the scorebook after scoring on a drive to the basket while being fouled just past the midway point of the first quarter.
Pennington Pours in Game-High 32 for Northwest
Tristan Pennington stole the show early by scoring 11 of his game-high 32 points in the opening quarter. Pennington hit a pair of three-pointers in the first quarter and then later added another pair of three-pointers as part of his 10-point third quarter. He finished with 16 points in each half, a game-high 6 rebounds, 4 steals, and a dunk.
Carter Kieffer and Trey Lower added 9 points each. Kieffer pulled down 5 rebounds. Lower registered a team-best 3 assists and also had 2 steals.
Other scorers for the Indians included Carson Lipinski with 5, Kellan Reinford with 4, and Conner Stephenson with 2. Reinford also added 4 rebounds and 2 steals. Stephenson tacked on 2 assists.
Northwest has now won two straight games to even its mark on the year at 3-3.
Indians Snap Leopards 5-Game Win Streak in Series
The Leopards had won the previous five matchups dating back to the 2021-2022 season before Saturday’s Indians victory. Louisville is still 36-24 against Northwest since the series’ first matchup in 1959. The Leopards are 15-13 against the Indians when playing at home in the series.

Louisville began the game on a 23-0 scoring run and led 29-2 at the end of the first quarter. The Leopards would hold a lead as large as 33-2 before the Indians would hit their first field goal of the game with 3:02 remaining in the second quarter.
Louisville took a 40-11 lead into halftime before rolling to a 60-31 win.
Chase Wilson hit a pair of three-pointers and scored 10 of his game-high 13 in the first quarter. Max Mathie also made 3 three-pointers and finished with 11. Jake Baker added 9 to round out the Leopards’ top scorers.
Talj Lipkins went 5-for-8 from the free throw line and scored 9 points to lead Northwest.
