The Louisville Leopards Boys Varsity Basketball Team beat the visiting North Canton Hoover Vikings 45-39 Saturday Night at Louisville High School. With the victory, Louisville improves to 6-3 on the season.
Spencer Hall scored a game-high 18 points and pulled down a team-high 8 rebounds to lead the Leopards. Hall also threw down Louisville’s first successful dunk of the season in what proved to be the game-winning points that gave LHS a 40-34 lead with 2:06 remaining. Colton Jones also scored 7 and both Cam King and Jared Mathie added 6.
The game remained tight throughout the first half with the Leopards taking a slim 12-11 lead at then end of one and a 21-19 lead into the break. Louisville widened the gap by winning the third quarter 12-8 to take a 33-27 advantage and played even with Hoover in the fourth to clinch the win.
North Canton (5-2) was led by Sencire Harris who scored a team leading 13 points. Connor Ashby and Zach Yun also scored 7 each for the Vikings. Isaac Baker was the game’s leading rebounder with 10 in helping Hoover hold a 29-27 edge on the glass.
This is the Leopards fourth straight victory over the Vikings since they resumed playing in the regular season during the 2015-16 season. Louisville has won all 3 meetings this decade played at LHS including their 69-60 win back in 2011. Saturday’s final score was nearly identical to the result of last year’s contest at North Canton which the Leopards won 44-39. Hoover still leads the all-time series 66-59 with records dating back to 1926.
