The Louisville Leopards Varsity Baseball Team doubled up the visiting North Canton Hoover Vikings 2-1 Tuesday Evening at Andy Aljancic Field. With their third consecutive victory, Louisville improves to 11-6 on the season.

Root Earns Complete Game Victory

Starting pitcher Zach Root threw a complete game en route to his third victory of the season for the Leopards. Root pitched all seven innings, gave up just 1 run on 5 hits, didn’t allow a free pass, and struck out 7. 

Root retired the side in order during the first two innings and held the Vikings off the board until the fifth inning. After allowing Hoover’s lone run, Root sat down the next 7 Hoover batters in order and didn’t allow a Viking to reach second base the rest of the way.

Root now holds an unblemished 3-0 record on the mound this season which ties him with Tate Aljancic and Bryce Graziani for the most wins on the team. Root also holds a team low ERA 0.70 amongst starters and is just one off the team lead in strikeouts recorded with 27.


Louisville Takes Early Lead in 2nd

My Fit Life Personal Trainer Side AdLouisville struck first with a pair of runs in the bottom of the second inning. Cole Miller and Jakeb Beard drew back-to-back walks to start the frame. Next, Zander Triplett reached on an error to load the bases.

After a strikeout, Owen Burick singled on a line drive to center field that plated Miller from third to put the Leopards on the board. Graziani followed with a fielder’s choice to second base that brought home courtesy runner Kolton Loy to increase the Leopard margin to 2-0.


Hoover Cuts Deficit in Half in the 5th

Lingenhoel Group - Arden and Lisa Lingenhoel - Cutler Real Estate AdNorth Canton Hoover cut the Louisville lead in half in the top of the fifth. Daniel Holihan singled on a line drive to center field to begin the inning and advanced to second on a sacrifice by Jake Donaldson. Mason Angione followed with an RBI triple to center field that brought home Holihan to cut the Viking deficit to 2-1.

Root needed just five pitches to get out of the inning as Louisville preserved its advantage.


Each Team Records 5 Hits

Equitable Advisors - Bryce MathieThe Leopards and Vikings both recorded five hits each. Beard finished 1-for-1 with a double and Root also went 1-for-3 with a double. Zach Ganser and Graziani also each went 1-for-3 at the plate to round out the Louisville hitting.

Donaldson was a perfect 2-for-2 with a double to lead Hoover. Andes also went 1-for-3 with a single and a stolen base.
