New Philadelphia Edges Louisville 4-3
New Philadelphia 4, Louisville 3
The Louisville Leopards fell to the visiting New Philadelphia Quakers 4-3 Wednesday evening. With the loss, the Leopards fall to 4-7 on the season.
Louisville was led by Jordan Hughes & Garrett Yoder who pounded out three hits each. New Philadelphia was led by Mike Kamban who went 2 for 3 with 2 runs batted in.
The Quakers took an early 3-0, but the Leopards knotted the game back up with a 3-run third inning. Connor Zwick, Hughes, and Alex Hollifield began the inning with three straight singles to load the bases. Yoder made it four straight singles as his shallow pop-up to right found the grass and drove in Zwick.
After an out, Joe Crank singled to center to bring home Hughes. Then Tyler Adams, who was making his Varsity Debut, grounded into a fielder’s choice which allowed the tying run in Hollifield to score.
New Philadelphia scored what proved to be the winning run in fifth inning. Nick Incarnato singled to center, advanced to second on a balk, and then came home via Colton Thomas’s single to left field to make it 4-3 Quakers.
Louisville had runners in scoring position in each of the final three innings, but failed to bring them home. In the fifth inning they attempted a double steal with runners on the corners, but the Leopard Runner was caught stealing home. In the final at-bat of the game, Quakers third basemen Konner Dematto stabbed a screaming line drive that could have potentially sent the game into extra innings.
UP NEXT: The Leopards will next take on the Canton South Wildcats on Thursday, April 24 at 4:30 PM. Varsity will be home, while JV will be on the road.
