Minerva Lions at Louisville Leopards 1971 Football Highlights
Louisville 25, Minerva 0
The Louisville Leopards completed their eighth undefeated season in team history with a 25-0 shutout of the visiting Minerva Lions back on November 12, 1971. Louisville finished 10-0 becoming just the 5th team in school history to complete the feat.
Following a Lions punt, Leopards Quarterback John Doerschuk found Doug Shook for a 51 yard reception on the first play from scrimmage. Ken Kuhn pounded the ball in from 2 yards out for the first of his two touchdowns to open up the scoring. Doerschuk would also run for a touchdown on 4th-and-Goal from the 8 to put Louisville ahead 12-0 at the break.
Kuhn’s second touchdown came on a 1 yard run in the third quarter and he also booted through the PAT to put the Leopards ahead 19-0. The drive was setup by a Craig Crislip fumble recovery on the Minerva 41. Doerschuk hit Dave Mazzan to gain 31 yards and setup a goal-to-go scenario. Kuhn would find pay dirt 2 plays later.
Louisville pounded the final nail in the coffin in the fourth quarter when Doerschuk connected with Shook for a 55 yard touchdown strike. The score capped off a 9 of 11 for 119 yard performance through the air for the undefeated Leopards. Louisville also out-gained Minerva 178-30 for the game and earned their fourth shutout of the season.
