Beatty's Sports Football 2018 Schedule Shirt T-ShirtThe Louisville Leopards Varsity Football Team was shutout by the visiting Massillon Tigers 41-0 Friday Night at Louisville Leopards Stadium. With the loss, Louisville falls to 5-4 on the season.

Wide Receiver Davis Burick made 5 receptions for 106 yards to lead the Leopards Offense. Quarterback Colton Jones was 17 of 36 passing and threw for 148 yards.

Louisville was unable to score in three redzone trips. Trailing 28-0 early in the second quarter, Jones connected with a wide open Burick down the left sideline for a 72 yard completion to the Tigers 8. After a face mask on the tackle, the Leopards had a 1st-and-Goal from the 4. A dropped snap on first down set Louisville back and the drive ended with two incompletions.

Massillon was pinned back deep, but managed move the chains twice. Facing a 3rd-and-4, a pass to the left flat found the waiting arms of Rode at the 31 yard line and he returned it 14 yards to the Tiger 17. Massillon was flagged for 3 pass interference penalties over the next few plays to setup Louisville 2nd-and-goal from the 1. Two runs netted negative 3 yards with an incompletion in-between.

The Leopards final redzone opportunity came at the beginning of the fourth quarter. Jones first down passes by Bryce Zuppe and Max Hartline put Louisville at the Tiger 10. But on the next play a fade pass to the right side of the endzone was picked off by Massillon Defensive Back Luke Murphy to preserve their shutout.

The Tigers defense also had two earlier interceptions to set the tone for the night. On the Leopards second drive of the game, Defensive Back Max Turner opened the scoring with a 25 yard pick six. On Louisville’s next play from scrimmage, Massillon Linebacker Kyshad Mack went to the ground to intercept a pass at the Leopards 33 to setup another score.

The Tigers dominated the contest in out-gaining the Leopards 364-152 in total yards. Massillon Quarterback Aidan Longwell completed 8 of 11 passes for 231 yards, threw 2 two long touchdowns to Jayden Ballard, and also ran for another on a 1 yard run. Their first aerial touchdown connection was a 74 yard bomb to open up a 21-0 lead in the first quarter and the second was a 78 yard scoring pass to make it 34-0 with 1:51 left before halftime.

Runningback Jamir Thomas also rushed the ball 18 times for 113 yards and scored on a pair of 1 yard touchdown runs. The Tigers carried the ball 29 times for 127 yards while the Leopards managed just 4 yards on 13 carries.

This was the first ever meeting between the two varsity squads.

UP NEXT: The Leopards will next travel to Canton Central Catholic to take on the Crusaders on Friday, October 26 at 7:00 PM. JV will conclude their season tomorrow at Paul Brown Tiger Stadium against the Massillon Tigers at 10:00 AM.
