Leopards Break Tie in Final Stanza to Down Dukes 52-45 – Girls Basketball

The Louisville Leopards Girls Varsity Basketball Team rallied from a halftime deficit to defeat the visiting Marlington Dukes 52-45 Saturday Afternoon at Louisville High School. With the win, Louisville improves to 6-7 on the year.

Sherilynn Mullett led the Lady Leopards offense with a game-high 14 points to go along with a team leading 8 rebounds. Erin Hahn and Paige Cole matched Mullett with a team-high 8 rebounds. Hahn also scored 11 points and led the Louisville defensive effort with 6 steals. Cole also reached double figures with 10 points, Kayla Gibson had 8 points and 5 steals, and Sydney Bast reeled in 6 boards.

Louisville led 12-10 at the end of the first before Marlington rallied to take a 27-25 lead at halftime. The Leopards knotted the game back up at the end of the third at 36-36 before outscoring the Dukes 16-9 in the final period to take the contest.

Marlington outshot Louisville from the floor 34% (14 of 41) to 26% (17 of 63) which included a 31% (6 of 19) to 6% (1 of 15) edge from beyond the arch. The Leopards overcame this by crashing the glass with 42 rebounds compared to the Dukes 31. This included a 22-10 advantage in offensive rebounds which allowed LHS to attempt 63 shots from the field and scored 14 second chance points.

The Lady Dukes were led by Alivia Lepley who also scored a game-high 14 points and pulled down 5 rebounds. Leah Springer also had 5 boards and reached double figures with 10. Other top scorers included Maria Ferrett and Allison Lacher who tacked on 6 each. Mary Mason also led Marlington in rebounds with 10.

With the victory, the Leopards have now won 8 of their last 10 against the Dukes. This was the 85th all-time meeting between the two schools, which is second most for any Louisville opponent only to Canton South who they have played 90 times. The Leopards lead the all-time series 67-19, which includes a 32-11 record in games played at Louisville in the series.
