The Louisville Leopards Boys Varsity Basketball Team stormed out of the gate and never looked back in a convincing 69-50 victory over the visiting Marlington Dukes Tuesday Night at Louisville High School. With the victory, Louisville improves to 12-5 overall and inches closer to an NBC Title with a 9-2 league mark.
Cam King scored all of his game-high 17 points through the first three quarters and hit 2 three-pointers to lead the Leopards. Brandon Wahl also hit a pair of three’s to finish with 14 and Spencer Hall scored 8 of his 10 points in the fourth quarter. Hall made all 6 of his free throw attempts in the final period to ice the game for Louisville.
The Leopards scored the first 15 points of the game in holding the Dukes off the scoreboard until the 3:25 mark of the first quarter. Louisville led by as many as 22 in the opening period before taking a 28-8 lead into the second quarter.
The Leopards slowed down their rampant pace in the second quarter and Marlington made up part of the deficit. Louisville never trail in the game as they took a 38-24 lead into the break and a 55-39 lead at the end of three. The Leopards made 9 of 12 free throws in the fourth quarter to clinch the victory after that.
The Dukes (10-5, 8-4) had three separate players reach double digits led by Michael Huberty who scored a team-high 15. Andrew Pucci also scored 13 and Blane Himmelheber added 11.
With the victory, Louisville has now won 8 of their past 9 meetings with Marlington. This was the 108th head-to-head meeting between the two rivals with the Leopards leading the all-time series 69-39. Louisville also finishes 38-20 against the Dukes in NBC matchups since the start of the league in the 1989-1990 season.
