Louisville 9, Marlington 6

The Louisville Leopards Varsity Baseball Team defeated the visiting Marlington Dukes 9-6 Wednesday Evening at the Field of Dreams. With the win, Louisville improves to 15-4 for the season.

The Leopards batted around in the opening inning to take a 5-0 lead out of the gate. Davis Burick walked to start the frame and then scored when Bryce Zuppe reached on an error in the next at-bat. Cam King singled and Dillon Rebuck was hit by a pitch to load the bases with one out. Zuppe came home on a passed ball two pitches later to make it 2-0. Then Cam Lingle delivered a line drive 2-run single scoring both King and Rebuck to break the game open at 4-0.

My Fit Life Personal Trainer AdDom Mongiardo also cracked a 2-out RBI single to bring in Lingle two batters later. Mongiardo would lead the Leopards by going 3-for-3 in the game as Louisville out-hit Marlington 9-7.

The Leopards tacked on another run in the third inning to go up 6-0. Broc Pickens grounded into a fielder’s choice and Rebuck scored from third.

The Dukes rallied back to cut the lead to 6-4, but Louisville ripped off three more runs in the bottom of the sixth to pull ahead 9-4. Zuppe hit a sacrifice fly to center that brought in Max Hartline. The Leopards reloaded the bases with two outs. Burick scored via a wild pitch to make it 8-4. Then King scored when Rebuck reached on an error to put Louisville up 9-4.

Marlington added two more runs in the seventh, but could get no closer. Tyler Jackson pitched the final 3 2/3 innings, allowed just one earned run on 4 hits, and struck out 5 to secure his first varsity save. Lingle remained undefeated improving to 3-0 with the decision. He started the first 3 1/3 innings, allowed 3 unearned runs on 3 hits, and struck out 3.

The Dukes (8-6) were led by Nate Allenbaugh, Andrew Carr, and Connor Evanich who each batted 2-for-4. Andrew Pucci and Anthony Sabatino both recorded a pair of RBIs as well.

The Leopards finish the regular season 5-1 against former NBC foes and 3-1 against current EBC teams with the win. Louisville has now defeated Marlington in 7 straight meetings overall.
