The Louisville Leopards routed the visiting Marlington Dukes 46-0 back on October 22, 1971. Louisville scored 39 points in the first half en rout to victory.
The Leopards out-rushed the Dukes 267-34 and spread the ball around to a variety of players. Gary Dickerhoof carried 6 times for 60 yards, Tim Wallace rushed 5 times for 56 yards and scored on a 39 yard run, and Dave Mazzan rushed for 55 yards on 6 attempts. Ken Kuhn also ran for two touchdowns from a yard away.
In the passing game, Quarterback John Doerschuk threw 2 touchdown passes. The first was a 58
yard bomb to Doug Shook in the second quarter and the second was a 32 yard touchdown grab by Mazzan for the only score of the third quarter. Louisville finished 9 of 12 passing for 126 yards.
The Leopards also converted on every point after touchdown attempt. Mazzan ran for two conversions, Bob Kohler also ran in a conversion, Doerschuk connected with Shook for two points, and Kuhn booted through two PATs.
The Louisville defense dominated in earning their third shutout of the season. The only real threat for a Marlington score came in the fourth quarter. The Dukes marched to the 8 yard line before turning the ball over on downs. The Leopards improved to 7-0.
