Louisville 28, Revere 14

On November 13, 1992 Leopards earned their first ever OHSAA State Playoff victory with a 28-14 defeat of the Revere Minutemen at Fawcett Stadium in the DII Regional Semifinals. Louisville’s victory did not come with adversity though as they rallied to score 28 unanswered points after trailing 14-0 in the second quarter.

“Tonight we learned we could come back,” Head Coach Rick Crislip said following the contest. “We showed a lot of patience and didn’t panic.”

The Minutemen took advantage of Leopard mistakes in the first half and scored on Ryan Smesko runs of 50 and 1. Revere accumulated 92 yards on the ground in the opening quarter, but netted only 10 yards during the remainder of the contest.

Louisville answered the two touchdown deficit with a 13 play, 68 yard drive that ended with runningback Brian Beatty scoring from 3 yards out. After a three-and-out on the ensuing Minutemen series, Beatty would cap off a 2-minute, 54 yard drive with a 1 yard endzone plunge. A two-point conversion run by Jon Aljancic knotted that game at 14-14 at the half.

The Leopards broke the back of the Minutemen when Aljancic hooked up with Wide Receiver Bob Burick for a 66 yard touchdown pass with 4:41 left in the third quarter. “I couldn’t
Beatty's Sports Gear Up For Football Seasonbelieve it when the defensive back left me,” Burick explained the play. “The route was supposed to be a curl-in, but when the DB left me, I went long. Jon saw me and he has a great arm. The pass was right to me.”

On the 3rd-and-12 play, Aljancic scrambled right before throwing with his left hand to the wide open Burick at the Minutemen 25. Burick went untouched into the endzone to give Louisville the lead for good. The Senior Quarterback was knocked to the ground and never saw the play, “I heard the crowd start screaming and I figured Bob caught it.”

Aljancic would finish the evening 6 of 13 for 111 yards.

The Leopard defense stopped Revere three consecutive series before Beatty iced the game on the Leps final touchdown drive. Louisville got the ball with 6:08 remaining and used 9 straight rushing plays to milk over four minutes off the clock. Beatty finished with 85 of his game-high 161 yards rushing on the drive which included his 2-yard touchdown run with 1:49 left in the contest.
