Louisville Takes Down State Champion Kettering Alter in Overtime 66-56 – Boys Basketball

The Louisville Leopards Boys Varsity Basketball Team rallied for a 66-56 overtime win over the defending state champion Kettering Archbishop Alter Knights Saturday Night at the Flyin’ to the Hoop Showcase at Trent Arena.

Gross and Siegfried Both Drop in 20+
Brayden Gross scored a game high 21 points and Beau Siegfried poured in 20 to lead the Leopards. Siegfried made 6 of 11 three-point attempts and also led the team in rebounds with 8. Gross shot 8 of 14 from the floor, hauled in 7 defensive boards, and registered a team-leading 3 assists.
It was a very even game all throughout regulation with 16 lead changes and 9 ties. The score remained deadlocked at 12-12 after the end of the first before the Knights took a narrow 30-28 lead into the break. Louisville edged Alter 15-14 in the third quarter to trail just 44-43 heading into the final stanza.
Aljancic Buzzer Beater Forces Overtime
With the Leopards trailing 56-54 in the waning seconds, the stage was set for a dramatic finish. Siegfried nearly ended the game in regulation with a three-point attempt from the right wing, but the ball popped off the back iron. The rebound ricocheted off two opposing players and floated toward Tate Aljancic.
Aljancic secured the rebound behind his head, quickly adjusted as the clock ticked down, and released a clutch shot with less than a second remaining. The buzzer rang throughout the arena just before the ball glanced perfectly off the glass to tie the game at 56-56 and force overtime.
Aljancic would finish the evening in double figures with 11 points to go along with 7 rebounds. Ashton Marshall also scored 6 points and tallied 6 boards. Other scorers for LHS included Avery Andrejcik with 6 and Kolton Loy with 2.
Leopards Blank Knights 10-0 in Extra Period
Louisville dominated the extra session, shutting out Kettering Alter 10-0 in overtime for a signature victory.
Kettering Alter won the Division II State Championship last season 68-54 over Zanesville Maysville. The Knights, four-time state champions, are currently ranked #11 in Division IV.
Greer and Fenton Lead Kettering Alter
Leading the charge for Kettering Alter were RJ Greer, Naceive Fenton, and Charlie Uhl, who each finished in double figures. Greer scored a team-high 15 points and dished out a team best 4 assists. Fenton registered a double-double with 11 points and a game-high 10 rebounds. Both Greer and Fenton made 3 three-pointers each as the Knights finished 11 of 32 (34%) from beyond the arc for the game.
Uhl also hit double digits with 10 points to go along with 5 rebounds. Brady Conner scored 6 points and snagged 6 defensive rebounds. Other scorers for the Knights included Peyton Bakos with 8 and Matt Lune with 6.
Kettering Alter came into the contest red hot in winning their previous four games by an average score of 87-43. The Knights are now 9-5 on the season following the loss.
This was the first meeting between Louisville and Kettering Alter in boys basketball.
UP NEXT:The Leopards will next host the St. Edward Eagles on Friday, January 24. Freshman will begin at 4:30 PM, JV will follow around 5:30 PM, and Varsity will conclude the night with a 7:00 PM start time from Louisville High School.
