Louisville 11, Westminster Christian 4

The Louisville Leopards Varsity Baseball Team trounced the Miami (Florida) Westminster Christian Warriors 11-4 in their third game of their Mingo Bay Classic road trip at Conway High School in Conway, South Carolina. With the victory, Louisville is now 3-1 on the season.

Starting Pitcher Jordan Shearer held the 11 time Florida State Champions off the scoreboard in the first three innings. He would go on to pitch 6 innings without giving up an earned run and only 4 hits. The Warriors made contact as Shearer only registered a single strikeout, but the Leopards defense help ensure him his second victory of the season.

My Fit Life Personal Trainer AdShearer was also self-serving at the plate when he tripled to right field and then came home via a wild pitch to give Louisville their first and final lead of the game in the second inning. Bryce Zuppe added to their cushion in the third inning when he scored on an error. Zuppe hit a 1 out single to get aboard then advanced to third when Cam King singled to right field. After a pickoff attempt, both runners advanced on an error which made it 2-0 Leopards.

Westminster Christian got a run back in the top half of the fourth, but Louisville responded with a 6-spot in the bottom half of the frame. Shearer walked, Max Hartline singled, and Dillon Rebuck walked to load the bases with one out. A single by Dom Mongiardo in the next at-bat plated courtesy runner Justin Blyer from third. After the second out was recorded, King hit a line drive 2-run single to center scoring both Hartline and Rebuck. Mongiardo and King both scored on passed balls after that. Then Caleb Prasco reached base on an error that brought home Burick to put the Leopards ahead 8-1.

The Warriors scored thrice in the top half of the fifth to cut into the Louisville lead at 8-4. But the Leopards kept coming in scoring 3 unanswered runs to close the contest. Rebuck doubled home Blyer and Zuppe singled in Rebuck to increase the lead to 10-4. Extra insurance came in the bottom of the sixth when Burick tripled to lead off the inning and then scored after an error.

Louisville doubled up Westminster Christian in hits 10-5 for the game. Hartline, King, and Zuppe all had a multi-hit game for the Leopards. Martin led the Warriors by going 2-for-4 at the dish with an RBI. Stewart Jr. and Ibanez also drove in runs. Melendez produced their only extra base hit with a double to start the fifth for Westminster Christian.

UP NEXT: The Louisville Baseball Team will next take on the Prairie View Thunderhawks from Henderson, Colorado in their final game of the Mingo Bay Classic. Game is set to start at Myrtle Beach Field. Game is set to start at 10:00 AM on Thursday, March 28.
