Leopards Baseball Division I Mingo Bay Classic Champions!

The Louisville Leopards Varsity Baseball Team concluded their out of state trip with an 8-0 shutout of the Henderson (Colorado) Prairie View Thunderhawks at Myrtle Beach Field Thursday Morning. With the victory, Louisville improves to 4-1 on the year and finishes as 2019 Division I Mingo Bay Classic Champions.

The pitching duo of Starter Andrew Gray and Closer Cam Lingle combined for the shutout in holding the Thunderhawks to only a single hit. Gray pitched 5 shutout innings and struck out 5 to earn his second victory of the classic. The Leopards led 2-0 when Lingle entered the game in the sixth inning. He retired all 6 batters that he faced including striking out 3 to earn the save.

Louisville’s bats removed all suspense in the sixth when they produced 6 more runs to pull ahead 8-0. The Leopards loaded the bases with one out to start the frame. Broc Pickens was hit by a pitch scoring Lingle from third. Then Bryce Zuppe hit a sacrifice fly to center scoring Max Hartline to make it 4-0. Cam King followed and drew a four pitch walk to reload the bases.

The next three Louisville at-bats produced runs to add to their already commanding lead. Davis Burick reached on an error scoring Dillon Rebuck from third. Jordan Shearer followed with a 2-run single to bring in Pickens and King. The pinch-running Austin Pugh came home on the next pitch which was scored a passed ball to put the Leopards in front 8-0.

Hartline finished 2-for-2 and scored three runs to lead Louisville. Just like in the sixth, Hartline broke the stalemate via a Zuppe sacrifice fly in the third. Hartline also singled to lead-off the fifth, stole second, and came home on Pickens single to left to put LHS ahead 2-0 in the fifth.

Sanchez had the lone hit for the Thunderhawks and Gutierrez struck out 6 on the mound.

UP NEXT: The Louisville Baseball Team will next travel to Canton South to take on a familiar foe in the Wildcats on Tuesday, April 2 at 5:00 PM.
